Braided or armoured
Underground cable has to take a knock: a spade, ground settlement or a stone in the trench. VO-YMvKas has a braid of galvanised steel wire (GSWB) with an underlying tinned-copper earth strand that serves as the earth. VG-YMvKas has an armour of galvanised steel wire with a steel tape counter helix (GSWA+ECC). The armour is heavier and protects better against pulling forces and mechanical damage.
Both have XLPE insulation, a flame-retardant PVC sheath, 0.6/1 kV, reaction-to-fire class Dca and approval to DEKRA K42D-1-1:2017 and DEKRA K42D-1-4-D:2017 (formerly KEMA-KEUR). The maximum conductor temperature is 90 °C, or 250 °C in a short circuit, per HD 604-S1-4D.
Copper or aluminium
On large cross-sections and long routes the copper price is a major cost factor. The VG-YMvKas Dca ALU is the aluminium version of the armoured cable, with reaction-to-fire class Dca; Cca we supply on request. NAYCWY combines an aluminium conductor with a concentric copper conductor and is rated for installation in water and concrete. Aluminium needs over one and a half times the cross-section of copper for the same resistance, but the conductor then still weighs about half.
The choice mostly comes down to the connections: aluminium needs connectors approved for aluminium, contact grease and bimetallic transitions. We calculate both variants if you send the length, load and voltage level.
Lengths, drums and cutting loss
Underground cable comes on drums of 250, 500 or 1,000 metres; heavy cross-sections in shorter lengths because the drum weight would otherwise be unmanageable. A 1,000-metre drum of 4×240 mm² has to be handled by crane. For project deliveries we agree the length breakdown before production and deliver in phases on call-off, so you do not pay for remnants.

VO or VG: which do I choose?
VG (armoured) where the cable risks mechanical damage or pulling force: under roads, in industry and on long pulls. VO (braided) for standard underground supply where the braid suffices for protection and earthing.
Can you supply to route length?
Yes. From stock we cut to length; for production orders the cable is made to route length. That way you do not pay for cutting loss you never use.
