Instrumentation cable
Instrumentation cable connects sensors, transmitters and controls in the process industry, at 225 V to 300/500 V. Choose a collective screen (CAM) for single signals, and PiMF or TiMF where analogue runs next to digital. Q Cables supplies the range armoured and halogen-free up to PH120, and supplied 141 km for Project Maasvlakte.

Collective or individual screening
A collective screen (CAM) around the whole core keeps out interference from outside. Individual screens per pair (PiMF) or per triad (TiMF) do what a collective screen cannot: suppress crosstalk between the cable’s own pairs. With millivolt signals next to switching power circuits, that is the difference between a stable and a noisy reading.
Analogue next to digital, or many pairs in one sheath, calls for PiMF or TiMF. For one or two pairs well away from power, a collective screen is enough, as on an RE-2X(St)Y with one pair or an RE-2Y(St)Y with two pairs.
Armoured, blue, intrinsically safe
The RE-2Y(St)Y range to EN 50288-7 comes unarmoured or with steel wire armour (RE-2Y(St)YSWAY), with a black sheath or blue (RAL 5015), the marker of intrinsically safe circuits in the process industry. The armoured version may be buried directly; flame-retardant, test voltage 1.5 kV.
BS 5308 Part 1 Type 2 is the British counterpart: PE insulation, collective screen, steel wire armour (SWA) and PVC sheath; LSZH sheath and PiMF as separate versions. Frequently specified on projects with British engineering.
Halogen-free with circuit integrity
For emergency systems and hazardous areas we supply the halogen-free instrumentation and control cables RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+), ROZ1MZ1-K(AS+) and Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS). The AS+ types reach PH120: a mica tape beneath the XLPE insulation keeps the cores separated after the polymer has burned away. Reaction-to-fire class Cca-s1b,d1,a1: halogen-free with little smoke.

When PiMF instead of a collective screen?
As soon as analogue and digital signals share one cable, or with many pairs in one sheath. Individual screens suppress crosstalk between pairs; a collective screen only external interference.
Do you supply large project quantities?
Yes. For a large expansion on the Maasvlakte we supplied 141,000 metres of 1×3×1.5 mm² RE-2X(St)HSWAH. We agree length breakdown and delivery dates up front and deliver in phases.
What is the difference between AS and AS+?
AS is halogen-free and non-flame-propagating. AS+ adds fire resistance: the circuit keeps working during a fire, expressed as a PH class from PH15 to PH120 (minutes of circuit integrity to EN 50200). For smoke extraction, alarms and fire pumps the specification usually requires AS+.
