NAYY
Aluminium PVC power / underground cable, 0.6/1 kV
NAYY is the aluminium NYY for 0.6/1 kV: lighter and more economical for the large cross-sections of a distribution network, suitable for direct burial. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
NAYY (also (N)AYY) is the aluminium version of NYY: a PVC-insulated power and underground cable for a rated voltage of 0.6/1 kV to DIN VDE 0276-603 (HD 603 S1), with aluminium conductors (solid class 1 / stranded class 2, circular or sector-shaped), PVC core insulation, an inner PVC covering (bedding) and a black PVC outer sheath. It is used for fixed power distribution and mains supply in buildings, cable ducts and outdoors, and may be laid directly in the ground; the light aluminium conductor makes it economical for the larger cross-sections of a distribution network. The -J version carries a green/yellow protective conductor; the -O version has the same construction and dimensions without it. It is available as single-core, 4- and 5-core cables from 16 to 630 mm².
Also known as: aluminium underground cable
Applications
- Mains supply and distribution where aluminium cuts weight and cost.
- Fixed power distribution in buildings, ducts and outdoors.
- Direct burial in the larger cross-sections.
What to look out for
- Aluminium: bimetallic lugs or terminals approved for aluminium, clean and grease the contact face. Aluminium directly on a copper busbar corrodes.
- From 16 mm²; for small cross-sections use copper (NYY).
- Unarmoured: in a sand bed with cover tiles or in conduit; armoured aluminium is VG-YMvKas AL/AL Cca.
- CPR class Eca. Where the cable is installed permanently in a building and exposed to indoor air, the Bbl requires at least Dca; choose VG-YMvKas Dca ALU there, for example.
- Conductor
- Aluminium, solid class 1 or stranded class 2 acc. to IEC 60228 / DIN VDE 0295; circular (RE/RM) or sector-shaped (SE/SM) in the larger multicore sizes.
- Insulation
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), compound type DIV4 acc. to HD 603 S1.
- Bedding
- Inner PVC covering (bedding) over the laid-up cores.
- Sheath
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), compound type DMV5 acc. to HD 603 S1; black.
- Core identification
- Acc. to HD 308 S2 / VDE 0293-308; -J with green/yellow protective conductor, -O without.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 0.6/1 kV (600/1000 V).
- Test voltage
- 4 kV AC.
- Standard
- DIN VDE 0276-603 (HD 603 S1); IEC 60502-1; conductors acc. to IEC 60228.
- Flame-retardant
- Acc. to IEC 60332-1-2 / DIN EN 60332-1-2.
- Max. conductor temperature
- +70 °C in normal operation.
- Max. short-circuit temperature
- +160 °C (≤ 300 mm²), +140 °C (> 300 mm²), up to 5 s.
- Min. bending radius, fixed
- 12 × outer diameter (multicore); 15 × for single-core.
NAYY or NYY?
NAYY
- aluminium conductors
- larger cross-section
NYY
- copper conductors
- smaller cross-section
NAYY is the aluminium version of NYY, with the same PVC insulation and black PVC sheath. Aluminium is lighter and more economical, but needs a larger cross-section for the same current and terminals approved for aluminium. For the large cross-sections of a network or main supply choose NAYY, for smaller circuits NYY.

NAYY
- green/yellow core as earth
- among the other cores
NAYCWY
- concentric conductor, PEN or earth
- copper, around the cores
Both have aluminium conductors with PVC insulation to VDE 0276-603. On NAYY-J the earth is a green/yellow core among the other cores. NAYCWY instead has a concentric copper conductor around the cores, which serves as PEN or earth. Choose NAYCWY for service connections where that concentric conductor is specified, NAYY for ordinary distribution.
