NYCWY
PVC power cable with concentric conductor, 0.6/1 kV
NYCWY is the power cable with a concentric copper conductor for 0.6/1 kV: the concentric layer serves as the PEN conductor and screen in TN-C networks. Suitable for direct burial. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
NYCWY is a PVC-insulated power cable for a rated voltage of 0.6/1 kV to DIN VDE 0276-603 (HD 603 S1) with a concentric copper conductor. The plain copper phase conductors (solid class 1 / stranded class 2) have PVC core insulation; over the laid-up cores a concentric conductor of helically applied copper wires in a wave form (the ‘W’) with a copper counter-helix serves as the combined PEN conductor, and a black PVC outer sheath completes the cable. It is used for fixed power distribution and mains supply in TN-C systems where the concentric conductor acts as the protective-and-neutral (PEN) conductor and as an electrical screen, including direct burial in the ground. It is available as 2- to 4-core cables from 10 to 240 mm² (phase).
Also known as: underground cable
Applications
- Mains supply and distribution in TN-C systems (PEN via the concentric conductor).
- Service cables where a screen/PEN is wanted.
- Direct burial in the ground.
What to look out for
- The concentric conductor is the PEN; follow the rules for TN-C use.
- Sizes stated per phase conductor (10 to 240 mm²).
- CPR class Eca. Where the cable is exposed to indoor air in a building, the Bbl requires at least Dca. Choose a halogen-free type with a concentric conductor there, such as N2XCH, and state the required class with your enquiry.
- Conductor
- Plain (bare) copper phase conductor, solid class 1 or stranded class 2 acc. to IEC 60228 / DIN VDE 0295.

NYCWY or NYY?
NYCWY
- no green/yellow core
- concentric conductor: PEN and screen
NYY
- green/yellow core (NYY-J)
- green/yellow protective conductor
NYCWY has a concentric conductor of copper wires around the cores. It serves as the PEN and as a screen in a TN-C network, which is why NYCWY has no green/yellow core. NYY-J does have that green/yellow core. For mains supply and distribution in a TN-C network choose NYCWY, for distribution with a green/yellow protective conductor in the cable NYY-J.

NYCWY
- copper phase conductors
- smaller cross-section
NAYCWY
- aluminium phase conductors
- larger cross-section
The difference is in the phase conductors: NYCWY has copper, NAYCWY aluminium. The concentric conductor around the cores is copper on both. NAYCWY is lighter and more economical, but needs a larger cross-section for the same current and terminals approved for aluminium. In large cross-sections NAYCWY pays off; in smaller ones choose NYCWY.
