Application

EAXeGB is the aluminium EXGB for 0.6/1 kV: LSZH fire safety and longitudinal water-tightness, with the weight and cost benefit of aluminium. CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.

EAXeGB is the aluminium, halogen-free version of the Belgian EXGB cable to NBN HD 603-5A for 0.6/1 kV power and distribution circuits. The aluminium conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), assembled with a halogen-free (LSZH) bedding incorporating a water-swelling tape for longitudinal water-tightness, and protected by a black, halogen-free, low-smoke (LSZH) outer sheath. It combines the safety of a halogen-free cable in a fire with the lower weight and cost of aluminium, for service connections, sub-distribution and feeders on trays, in ducts and buried with protection. Its reaction-to-fire performance is CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1.

Belgian standardAluminiumHalogen-free

Also known as: aluminium halogen-free cable

Applications

  • Halogen-free distribution in aluminium: service connections, sub-distribution and feeders.
  • On trays, in ducts and buried with protection.
  • Recent Belgian family (NBN HD 603-5A 2023 / Synergrid C1/107).

What to look out for

  • Aluminium: bimetallic lugs or terminals approved for aluminium, clean and grease the contact face. Aluminium directly on a copper busbar corrodes.
  • Halogen-free and low smoke, but flame-retardant, not fire-resistant.
  • Copper counterpart: EXGB (outdoor) / XGB (indoor).

Which one do I choose?

EAXeGB or EAXeVB?

EAXeGB

  • LSZH bedding and sheath
  • CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1

EAXeVB

  • PVC bedding and sheath
  • CPR class Eca

EAXeGB and EAXeVB share the aluminium conductors, the XLPE insulation and the water blocking tape. EAXeGB has a bedding and sheath of halogen-free, low-smoke material and CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. EAXeVB has PVC and class Eca. Choose EAXeGB where smoke and corrosive gases in a fire must be kept low or a higher fire class is required.

EAXeGB or EXGB?

EAXeGB

  • aluminium conductors
  • larger cross-section

EXGB

  • copper conductors
  • smaller cross-section

Both are halogen-free with CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. EAXeGB has aluminium conductors and a water blocking tape against water travelling along the cable; EXGB has copper conductors. Aluminium is lighter and more economical for heavy supplies, but needs a larger cross-section for the same current and terminals rated for aluminium. For smaller cross-sections choose the copper EXGB.
