NAYCWY Eca
Power cable 0.6/1 kV, aluminium conductor, concentric copper conductor
NAYCWY Eca is the German service cable to VDE 0276-603: aluminium conductors with PVC insulation, a concentric copper conductor as PEN or earth, and a black PVC sheath. For fixed installation indoors, outdoors, underground, in water and in concrete. The concentric conductor makes a separate earth core unnecessary.
NAYCWY is a 0.6/1 kV power cable to DIN VDE 0276-603 (HD 603 S1) with aluminium conductors, PVC insulation and a concentric copper conductor under a black PVC outer sheath. It is used for power distribution in power stations, industrial installations, switchgear and local mains, for fixed installation indoors, in cable ducts, outdoors, in the ground, in water and in concrete, where protection against contact voltage in the event of mechanical damage or electrical screening is required. The concentric conductor serves as the protective conductor (PE) or as the combined protective and neutral conductor (PEN); its wave form allows branch joints without cutting it. Available with 2, 3 and 4 cores from 16 to 240 mm², with round or sector-shaped conductors.
Also known as: aluminium underground cable
Applications
- Service connections and distribution mains in the ground, to VDE 0276-603.
- Supply to buildings and installations where the concentric conductor serves as PEN.
- Fixed installation in concrete and in water, for example pumping stations and sumps.
What to look out for
- Aluminium conductors, copper concentric conductor: use bimetallic or aluminium-rated terminals for the aluminium cores and grease the contact face.
- CPR class Eca. Where the cable is exposed to indoor air in a building, the Bbl requires at least Dca.
- Conductor
- Aluminium, solid (class 1) or stranded (class 2) acc. to IEC 60228, round or sector-shaped (see the shape column).
- Insulation
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), type DIV 4.
- Inner covering
- Over the laid-up cores, extruded elastomer or plastomer compound or tape, depending on the manufacturer.
- Concentric conductor
- Bare copper wires applied in wave form, with a copper tape counter helix.
- Outer sheath
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), type DMV 5, black, UV-resistant.
- Core identification
- Acc. to HD 308. 2-core: blue, brown. 3-core: brown, black, grey. 4-core: blue, brown, black, grey. There is no green/yellow core: the protective earth runs through the concentric copper conductor.

Size given as phase conductor / concentric copper conductor. Shape: RE = round, solid (class 1); RM = round, stranded (class 2); SE = sector-shaped, solid; SM = sector-shaped, stranded. Short-circuit current: aluminium conductor, 1 s, from 70 to 160 °C. We confirm the weights of the two 3×240 constructions on request. Outer diameter and weight differ per delivery: choose glands with margin.

Current ratings to NEN 1010, for aluminium at a conductor temperature of 70 °C and one multi-core cable; the concentric conductor does not count as a loaded conductor. Method C: clipped direct on a wall. Method E: in free air or on a perforated cable tray. Method D1: in a duct in the ground. Method D2: direct in the ground. The values apply to one circuit, at 30 °C in air or at 20 °C and a soil thermal resistivity of 2.5 K·m/W in the ground. We recalculate them for your situation.
NAYCWY or NYCWY?
NAYCWY Eca
- aluminium phase conductors
- larger cross-section
NYCWY
- copper phase conductors
- smaller cross-section
NAYCWY has aluminium phase conductors, NYCWY copper ones; the concentric conductor around the cores is copper on both. Aluminium is lighter and more economical, but needs a larger cross-section for the same current and bimetallic or aluminium-rated terminals. Choose NAYCWY in the larger cross-sections, NYCWY in the smaller ones.

NAYCWY Eca
- concentric conductor, PEN or earth
- copper, around the cores
NAYY
- green/yellow core as earth
- among the other cores
Both have aluminium conductors with PVC insulation to VDE 0276-603. NAYCWY has a concentric copper conductor around the cores, which serves as PEN or earth. NAYY-J has a green/yellow core among the other cores for that purpose. If the service connection calls for a concentric conductor, choose NAYCWY; for ordinary distribution NAYY will do.
