EAXeVB
Belgian NBN aluminium installation/distribution cable (aluminium EXVB, longitudinally watertight), 0.6/1 kV
EAXeVB is the aluminium, longitudinally watertight EXVB for 0.6/1 kV: lighter and more economical for large cross-sections, with XLPE insulation, a water blocking tape and a black PVC sheath. For service connections, sub-distribution and feeders. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
EAXeVB is the aluminium, longitudinally watertight version of the Belgian EXVB cable to NBN HD 603-5A for 0.6/1 kV power and distribution circuits where the lower weight and cost of aluminium are wanted. The aluminium conductors (solid or stranded) are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), assembled with a PVC bedding (common core covering) over a water blocking tape for longitudinal water-tightness, and protected by a black PVC outer sheath. EAXeVB is used for building service connections, sub-distribution and feeders on trays, in ducts and buried with protection. We supply EAXeVB from about 35 mm², where aluminium pays off. For smaller cross-sections choose the copper EXVB, indoors the XVB.
Also known as: aluminium connection cable
Applications
- Building service connections, sub-distribution and feeders.
- Large cross-sections where aluminium cuts weight and cost.
- On trays, in ducts and buried with protection.
What to look out for
- Aluminium: bimetallic lugs or terminals approved for aluminium, clean and grease the contact face. Aluminium directly on a copper busbar corrodes.
- From about 35 mm². For smaller sizes choose the copper EXVB, indoors the XVB.
- The e stands for longitudinally watertight: a water blocking tape stops water travelling along the cable. Without that tape the aluminium cable is called EAXVB.
- EAXeVB is Eca. Under the AREI an Eca cable may only be laid singly, at least 2 cm from other cables, and in rooms with a normal fire risk. Bundled, the AREI calls for Cca.

EAXeVB or EXVB?
EAXeVB
- aluminium conductors
EXVB
- copper conductors
EAXeVB has aluminium conductors and a water blocking tape that makes the cable longitudinally watertight; EXVB has copper conductors. Both have XLPE insulation and a black PVC sheath. EAXeVB is lighter and more economical in the large cross-sections, but needs terminals approved for aluminium. For smaller cross-sections choose EXVB.

EAXeVB
- PVC bedding and sheath
- CPR class Eca
EAXeGB
- halogen-free and low-smoke (LSZH)
- CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1
Both have aluminium conductors, XLPE insulation and a water blocking tape against water travelling along the cable. EAXeVB has a PVC bedding and sheath and CPR class Eca. EAXeGB is halogen-free and low-smoke (LSZH), with class Cca-s1,d2,a1. If the project calls for halogen-free or a higher fire class, choose EAXeGB; otherwise EAXeVB will do.
