Application

XFVB is the steel-tape armoured XVB for 0.6/1 kV: double steel tape against crushing and impact, with the familiar XLPE/PVC build and CPR class Cca. For industrial floors, cable basements and ducts. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.

XFVB is the armoured version of the Belgian XVB installation cable to NBN HD 604 for 0.6/1 kV circuits that need mechanical protection. The copper conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), assembled with a PVC bedding (common core covering), surrounded by copper earth wires, protected by a double steel-tape armour and finished with a grey, flame-retardant PVC outer sheath. The steel-tape armour resists crushing and impact, so XFVB suits industrial floors, cable basements, ducts and locations with a risk of mechanical damage. It carries CPR reaction-to-fire class Cca-s3,d2,a3. Where a halogen-free armoured cable is required, the LSZH sibling XFGB is used.

Applications

  • Industrial floors, cable basements and ducts with a risk of mechanical damage.
  • Power circuits that require extra protection.
  • Belgian projects that specify the armoured XVB.

What to look out for

  • The copper earth wires under the steel tape serve as the earth conductor, not the steel tape itself. Not every inspection body accepts this. Check with the inspector in advance, or choose a version with a green/yellow core.
  • Choose glands or earth clamps that grip the steel tape; an ordinary plastic gland leaves the armour floating.
  • Need halogen-free armoured? Choose XFGB.
  • In ducts, floors and basements where the cable needs mechanical protection. For direct burial choose EXAVB.

Which one do I choose?

XFVB or EXAVB?

XFVB

  • NBN HD 604
  • grey sheath
  • not buried unprotected

EXAVB

  • NBN HD 603-6E
  • black sheath
  • direct burial

Both are Belgian armoured cables for 0.6/1 kV with XLPE insulation. XFVB follows NBN HD 604 and has a grey sheath; it belongs in ducts, on industrial floors and in basements, and may not be laid unprotected in the ground. EXAVB follows NBN HD 603-6E, has a black sheath and may be buried directly, with or without additional protection. For direct burial, choose EXAVB.

XFVB or XVB?

XFVB

  • double steel tape, earth wires

XVB

  • no armour

XFVB is the armoured XVB: the same XLPE insulation and grey PVC sheath, with copper earth wires and a double steel tape against crushing and impact in between. XVB has no armour. If the cable runs where mechanical damage is likely, such as an industrial floor or a cable basement, choose XFVB. On trays and cable ladders without that risk, XVB will do.
