Data and LAN cable
Data and LAN cable is 100 ohm twisted-pair cabling for networks, from Cat 5e (Class D, 100 MHz) to Cat 7A (Class FA, 1,000 MHz). Choose the category by speed and the screen (U/UTP unscreened to S/FTP fully screened) by the level of interference. Indoors choose LSZH, outdoors a UV-resistant sheath. Cat 7 S/FTP is in stock; we supply the other types to order, with the lead time stated in the quote.

Category and class: from Cat 5e to Cat 7A
The category sets the bandwidth the cable is specified over, not the speed itself. Cat 5e (Class D) goes up to 100 MHz and supports Gigabit Ethernet. Cat 6 (Class E) goes up to 250 MHz. Cat 6A (Class EA) goes up to 500 MHz and supports 10 Gigabit over the full 100 metres. Cat 7 (Class F) goes up to 600 MHz and Cat 7A (Class FA) up to 1,000 MHz. More bandwidth gives more margin against interference, but not a higher speed by itself.
Screen types: U/UTP, F/UTP, U/FTP, F/FTP and S/FTP
Read the screen code as (collective)/(pair): U = unscreened, F = foil and S = braid. U/UTP is unscreened, F/UTP has a collective foil, U/FTP screens each pair separately, and F/FTP and S/FTP combine foiled pairs with a collective foil or braid. More screening means less crosstalk and interference, and is needed as the class and the ambient noise rise.

Which category do I need?
For Gigabit, Cat 5e or Cat 6 suffices. For 10 Gigabit over the full 100 metres choose Cat 6A. Cat 7 and Cat 7A offer more bandwidth and so more margin, but often need GG45 or TERA connectors for the full class.
Screened or unscreened?
Unscreened (U/UTP) suffices in a clean environment. If the cable runs past power cables or machinery, or the class requires it, choose a foil-screened or fully screened version.
Do you supply outdoor and burial cable?
Yes. The Cat 6 outdoor version has a UV- and weather-resistant sheath for outdoors and direct burial. State the application and we choose the right sheath.
