Application

EXGB is the halogen-free outdoor cable for 0.6/1 kV: LSZH fire safety in a black sheath for outdoor use and CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. For outdoor distribution and ground ducts. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.

EXGB is the copper, halogen-free, outdoor version of the Belgian XGB cable to NBN HD 603-5A for 0.6/1 kV power and distribution circuits. The copper conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), assembled with a halogen-free (LSZH) bedding and protected by a black, halogen-free, low-smoke (LSZH) outer sheath. EXGB combines the fire safety of a halogen-free cable (no corrosive halogen gases and very little smoke) with a black sheath for outdoor use. It is used for service connections, yard and site distribution and feeders, outdoors and in ground ducts. Its reaction-to-fire performance is CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. The aluminium equivalent is EAXeGB; the standard indoor halogen-free cable is XGB (NBN HD 604-5-L).

Belgian standardHalogen-freeOutdoor

Also known as: halogen-free outdoor cable

Applications

  • Halogen-free outdoor distribution: service connections, yard and site feeders.
  • Outdoors and in ground ducts, where a low-smoke cable is required.
  • Belgian projects that call for a halogen-free outdoor cable.

What to look out for

  • Halogen-free and low smoke, but flame-retardant, not fire-resistant.
  • Indoor halogen-free: XGB. Aluminium: EAXeGB.

Which one do I choose?

EXGB or EXVB?

EXGB

  • LSZH bedding and sheath
  • CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1

EXVB

  • PVC bedding and sheath
  • CPR class Eca

EXGB and EXVB are both Belgian outdoor cables with XLPE cores and a black sheath. EXGB has a bedding and sheath of halogen-free, low-smoke material (LSZH) and CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. EXVB has PVC and class Eca. Choose EXGB where halogen-free and low smoke matter or a higher fire class is required; otherwise EXVB will do.

EXGB or EAXeGB?

EXGB

  • copper conductors

EAXeGB

  • aluminium conductors

Both are halogen-free Belgian cables for 0.6/1 kV with XLPE insulation and CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. EXGB has copper conductors. EAXeGB has aluminium conductors and a water blocking tape that makes the cable longitudinally watertight. Aluminium is lighter and more economical, but needs bimetallic lugs or terminals approved for aluminium; for heavy supplies choose EAXeGB, for smaller cross-sections EXGB.
