EXAVB
Belgian NBN armoured underground cable, XLPE, black PVC sheath, 0.6/1 kV
EXAVB is the Belgian underground cable for 0.6/1 kV: steel wire up to and including 10 mm², a double steel tape from 16 mm², XLPE and a black PVC sheath. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
EXAVB is the Belgian armoured power and distribution cable for 0.6/1 kV to NBN HD 603-6E. The bare copper conductors are insulated with XLPE and share a common covering. Over them lie a protective circuit of copper wires, a steel armour and a black, flame-retardant PVC sheath. The armour depends on the cross-section: round galvanised steel wires up to and including 10 mm², a double steel tape from 16 mm². The cable may be laid directly in the ground, with or without additional protection. EXAVB is also laid in air, in cable ducts and in pipes, in domestic and industrial installations where there is a risk of mechanical damage. Not to be confused with XFVB: that armoured installation cable to HD 604 has a grey sheath and may not be laid unprotected in the ground.
Also known as: armoured underground cable
Applications
- Direct burial, with or without additional protection.
- Domestic and industrial installations with a risk of mechanical damage: in air, in cable ducts and in pipes.
- Belgian projects that specify EXAVB.
What to look out for
- The copper protective circuit is not an earth conductor. If you need an earth in the cable, order a green/yellow core (G in the designation, X is without).
- Lay EXAVB only at +5 °C or warmer.
- Do not bend the cable tighter than 15 × the outer diameter; for 4×16 mm² that is about 36 cm.
- Keep in mind that the outer diameter can differ from the table by up to about 1 mm per delivery. Glands have overlapping clamping ranges: choose a size in which the diameter sits well within the range.
- Conductor
- Bare copper, solid class 1 or stranded class 2 acc. to IEC 60228; sector-shaped stranded conductors from 70 mm².
- Insulation
- Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).
- Core identification
- Colours acc. to HD 308 S2, with or without a green/yellow earth core (G with, X without).
- Bedding
- Common covering over the laid-up cores.
- Protective circuit
- Copper wires over the core assembly; not to be used as the earthing conductor.
- Armour
- Round galvanised steel wires (1.2 mm) up to and including 10 mm²; double galvanised steel tape (2 × 0.5 mm, 2 × 0.7 mm on the largest sizes) from 16 mm².
- Outer sheath
- Flame-retardant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), black.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 0.6/1 kV.
- Standard
- NBN HD 603-6E; conductor acc. to IEC 60228.
- Reaction to fire (CPR)
- Cca-s3,d2,a3 acc. to EN 50575 / EN 50399 (AVCP system 1+).
- Flame-retardant
- Acc. to IEC 60332-1-2 (single cable) and IEC 60332-3-24 (bunched cables); NBN C 30-004 F2.
- Max. conductor temperature
- +90 °C.
- Max. short-circuit temperature
- +250 °C (max. 5 s).
- Min. bending radius
- 15 × outer diameter.
- Min. temperature for laying
- +5 °C.

EXAVB or XFVB?
EXAVB
- armoured underground cable
- NBN HD 603-6E
- black PVC sheath
- direct burial
XFVB
- armoured installation cable
- NBN HD 604
- grey sheath
- not buried unprotected
EXAVB is the armoured underground cable to NBN HD 603-6E, with a black PVC sheath, and may be buried directly. XFVB is the armoured installation cable to NBN HD 604, with a grey sheath, and may not be laid unprotected in the ground. For direct burial choose EXAVB; on industrial floors, in cable basements and in ducts choose XFVB.

EXAVB
- with or without green/yellow core
VG-YMvKas
- never a green/yellow core
Both are armoured underground cables for 0.6/1 kV with XLPE insulation. EXAVB follows the Belgian standard NBN HD 603-6E and comes with or without a green/yellow core (G or X). VG-YMvKas never has a green/yellow core: the earth continuity conductor in the armour carries the earth. In Belgium choose EXAVB, in the Netherlands VG-YMvKas.
