Control and signal cable
Control and signal cable links switchboards, machines and control systems. The control cables are rated 300/500 V, the Li data cables such as LiYCY 250 V. Unscreened types such as YSLY-JZ and YSLY-OZ suit areas without interference. Where drives or sensitive signals run alongside, choose a screened YSLYCY-JZ or LiYCY, and where the cable needs mechanical protection the steel-braided YSLYSY-JZ. Screened or unscreened
An unscreened cable such as YSLY-JZ or YSLY-OZ is enough for supply and simple control where there is no interference. Where the cable runs past variable-speed drives, motors or measuring signals, choose a screened version: YSLYCY-JZ and LiYCY have a copper braid that limits pick-up and emission. The screen only works if you earth it correctly on at least one side.
LiYCY is the fine-stranded data and signal cable with a braid screen; LiYCY-TP has twisted pairs for better signal transmission. LiYY is the unscreened version for low-frequency signals and data indoors. For core colours these types generally follow DIN 47100.
Where the cable moves
Machine building often needs cable that flexes on a moving part. In that case, check the bending radius: for these types it is 10 to 20 × the outer diameter when flexing, against 4 to 12 × for fixed installation. Check the temperature range when flexing as well; the values for each type are on its product page. These types are made for fixed installation and occasional free movement. For a drag chain, where the cable moves back and forth continuously, choose the PUR drag-chain cable JZ. YSLYSY-JZ adds a steel wire braid for mechanical protection where the cable may be knocked or pinched.

Is YY the same as YSLY-JZ?
Yes. YY is a shorter name for the same unscreened PVC control cable: fine-stranded copper cores, black and numbered, with a green/yellow core from three cores up (JZ). In the same way CY and YSLYCY-JZ are the same, as are SY and YSLYSY-JZ. Without a green/yellow core the cable is called YSLY-OZ. With cores coloured to HD 308 it is YSLY-JB.
When do I choose YSLYCY-JZ instead of YSLY-JZ?
YSLYCY-JZ has a copper braid screen and YSLY-JZ does not. Choose YSLYCY-JZ as soon as the cable runs past sources of interference (variable-speed drives, large motors) or carries sensitive signals itself. In a clean environment without interference, YSLY-JZ is enough.
Are these cables suitable for a drag chain?
Only the PUR drag-chain cable JZ. The other types are made for fixed installation and occasional free movement, not for continuous flexing. Give us the travel length, the number of cycles per hour and the smallest radius in the chain, and we will work out the right type.
