EXVB

Belgian NBN copper outdoor cable (reinforced-sheath XVB), 0.6/1 kV

0.6/1 kV CPR Eca NBN HD 603-5A
CU/XLPE/PVC/PVC On request Lead time: On request; the lead time is stated in the quote. Send your enquiry
Application

EXVB is the outdoor XVB for 0.6/1 kV: a heavier, black UV-stable sheath for outdoor routes and ground ducts. The choice where the grey indoor XVB is not permitted. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.

EXVB is the copper outdoor version of the Belgian XVB. EXVB follows NBN HD 603-5A and is used for 0.6/1 kV power and distribution circuits. The copper conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), assembled with a PVC bedding (common core covering) and protected by a black, reinforced PVC outer sheath. The heavier, black (UV-stable) sheath is the key difference from standard grey XVB: EXVB is intended for outdoor routing and for laying in ground ducts and conduits, for building service connections, yard and site distribution and feeders, where the grey XVB (NBN HD 604) for indoor and embedded use is not suitable. Where mechanical protection is required, choose EXAVB in the ground and the steel-tape armoured XFVB indoors; the aluminium equivalent of EXVB is EAXVB, and the halogen-free outdoor sibling is EXGB.

Also known as: outdoor cable

Applications

  • Outdoor routes and laying in ground ducts and conduits.
  • Service connections, yard and site distribution and feeders.
  • Belgian projects that require the outdoor version.

What to look out for

  • For indoor/embedded, the grey XVB suffices; EXVB is for outdoors.
  • Need mechanical protection? In the ground choose EXAVB, indoors the armoured XFVB.
  • Halogen-free outdoor: EXGB. In aluminium: EAXVB, or EAXeVB if the cable has to be longitudinally watertight.
  • EXVB is Eca. Under the AREI an Eca cable may only be laid singly, at least 2 cm from other cables, and in rooms with a normal fire risk. Bundled, the AREI calls for Cca.

EXVB or EXAVB?

EXVB

  • unarmoured
  • underground only with protection

EXAVB

  • steel armour
  • direct burial

EXVB is unarmoured: a black, reinforced PVC sheath over the XLPE cores. In the ground EXVB may only be laid with additional mechanical protection, for example in a duct. EXAVB has a steel armour and may be buried directly, with or without additional protection. If you bury the cable directly, without a duct, choose EXAVB.

EXVB or EXGB?

EXVB

  • PVC sheath
  • CPR class Eca

EXGB

  • halogen-free and low-smoke
  • CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1

Both are Belgian outdoor cables for 0.6/1 kV with XLPE insulation and a black sheath. EXVB has a PVC sheath and CPR class Eca. EXGB is halogen-free and low-smoke, with CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. If the specification calls for halogen-free or a higher fire class, choose EXGB; otherwise EXVB will do.
