Application

RE-2X(St)YSWBY is the RE-2X(St)Y with a galvanised steel wire braid: the same XLPE instrumentation cable to EN 50288-7, but resistant to knocks and pinching and with additional magnetic screening. For routes in the process industry where an unarmoured cable is too vulnerable. The 4×2×1.3 PiMF version is in stock in Dordrecht; other sizes and versions on request.

RE-2X(St)YSWBY is a braid-armoured instrumentation and process-control cable to EN 50288-7 (VDE 0819-7) for measuring, control, signal and alarm circuits. The copper conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and stranded into pairs or triads, which are assembled and enclosed by a collective (overall) screen of aluminium/polyester foil with a tinned copper drain wire. A galvanised steel wire braid over an inner PVC bedding provides mechanical protection and additional magnetic screening, and a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) outer sheath completes the cable. Also available with individually screened pairs (PiMF) or triads (TiMF). The cable is intended for fixed installation and is not for power distribution.

Also known as: armoured instrumentation cable · braided instrumentation cable · instrumentation cable · measuring cable

Applications

  • Measuring, control, signal and alarm circuits on routes with a risk of mechanical damage.
  • Signal circuits alongside drives and power cables, where the steel braid adds damping of magnetic interference.
  • Projects to EN 50288-7 that specify an armoured instrumentation cable.

What to look out for

  • The steel braid protects against knocks and pinching; for burial, check whether round steel wire (SWA) is the better fit.
  • XLPE: 90 °C conductor temperature; bending radius 10× the outer diameter fixed. According to its own datasheet, the PiMF version, which includes the 4×2×1.3 in stock, needs 14× and can be installed fixed from −25 °C instead of −30 °C.
  • Terminate and earth the drain wire and the steel braid separately, according to the earthing plan of the installation.
  • CPR class Dca-s3,d2,a3. Where the cable is exposed to indoor air in a building, the Bbl requires smoke class s2 or better, and RE-2X(St)YSWBY does not meet that. Embedded in concrete the requirement does not apply.

Which one do I choose?

RE-2X(St)YSWBY or RE-2X(St)Y?

RE-2X(St)YSWBY

  • galvanised steel wire braid
  • PVC inner sheath

RE-2X(St)Y

  • no steel wire braid
  • no inner sheath

RE-2X(St)YSWBY is RE-2X(St)Y with a PVC inner sheath and a galvanised steel wire braid under the outer sheath. XLPE insulation, collective screen and the EN 50288-7 standard are the same. The steel wire braid gives mechanical protection and adds damping of magnetic interference. Choose RE-2X(St)YSWBY where the cable may be damaged, and RE-2X(St)Y in trays, trunking and ducts without that risk.

RE-2X(St)YSWBY or RE-2X(St)HSWAH?

RE-2X(St)YSWBY

  • PVC sheaths
  • galvanised steel wire braid

RE-2X(St)HSWAH

  • LSZH outer sheath
  • round steel wire armour (SWA)

RE-2X(St)YSWBY has PVC sheaths and a galvanised steel wire braid. RE-2X(St)HSWAH has a halogen-free, low-smoke (LSZH) outer sheath and galvanised round steel wire armour (SWA). XLPE insulation, collective screen and the EN 50288-7 standard are the same. If the specification calls for halogen-free, the choice is RE-2X(St)HSWAH; without that requirement RE-2X(St)YSWBY is enough.
