Application

Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS) is the halogen-free, armoured instrumentation cable to EN 50288-7: copper with thermoplastic polyolefin insulation, aluminium/polyester screens per pair and overall, halogen-free inner sheath, steel wire armour and a halogen-free outer sheath, reaction-to-fire class Cca-s1b,d1,a1. For control and measurement in hazardous (explosive) areas where interference and mechanical stress come together.

Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS) is suitable for applications with a high risk of electromagnetic interference and where halogen-free and flame-retardant properties are required. Recommended for industrial installations with a risk of mechanical damage, such as service stations, petrochemical plants and flammable product warehouses.

ATEXEMCHalogen-free

Also known as: halogen-free instrumentation cable

Applications

  • Instrumentation and control in hazardous areas (ATEX) where EN 60079-14 calls for an armoured cable.
  • Signal cable running alongside power cables and drives: screen per pair and overall.
  • Halogen-free installations that require Cca, without a circuit-integrity requirement.

What to look out for

  • Thermoplastic insulation: 70 °C conductor temperature max. and no circuit integrity. If the signal must survive a fire, choose RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+).
  • Earth the pair screens at one end, usually in the instrument cabinet.
  • Earth the armour with SWA glands at both ends.

Which one do I choose?

Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS) or RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+)?

Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS)

  • thermoplastic polyolefin
  • rated 70 °C
  • no circuit integrity

RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+)

  • XLPE with mica tape
  • rated 90 °C
  • circuit integrity up to PH120

Both have a screen per pair, a collective screen, steel wire armour and halogen-free sheaths; the difference is the insulation. Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS) has thermoplastic polyolefin rated 70 °C, without circuit integrity. RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) has a mica tape with XLPE rated 90 °C and keeps the circuit working in a fire up to PH120. Without a circuit-integrity requirement, Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS) is enough for control and measurement.

Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS) or Z1HOZ1MZ1-K(AS)?

Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS)

  • stranded copper, class 2

Z1HOZ1MZ1-K(AS)

  • fine-stranded copper, class 5

Without K the cable has stranded class 2 copper, the K version fine-stranded class 5 copper. Insulation, screens and armour are the same. Fine-stranded copper bends more easily when pulling in and terminating, but needs ferrules for a reliable terminal connection. Choose the K version for tight bends and a lot of termination work; otherwise Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS) is enough.
