Application

JE-H(St)H Bd FE180 is the fire-resistant fire-alarm cable: screened pairs with a mica tape for FE180 circuit integrity, halogen-free, for fire-alarm and evacuation systems. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.

JE-H(St)H Bd FE180 is a halogen-free, fire-resistant, collectively screened cable for fire-detection and alarm systems, signalling and telecommunication circuits that must keep operating during a fire. Solid bare-copper pairs (0.8 mm) are wrapped with a mica-glass fire-barrier tape and halogen-free cross-linked insulation to maintain circuit integrity to FE180 (IEC 60331); the assembled, bundle-stranded ('Bd') elements are enclosed by a collective (overall) screen (St) of aluminium/polyester foil in contact with a tinned copper drain wire, which protects the signal pairs against electromagnetic interference. The complete cable reaches system integrity classes E30 to E90 to DIN 4102-12 depending on the mounting. The low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) sheath is orange and, when burning, emits low smoke and no corrosive halogen gases. The cable is not intended for power distribution.

Also known as: fire-resistant fire-alarm cable

Applications

  • Fire-alarm, evacuation and voice-alarm systems.
  • Control and signalling of safety systems with circuit integrity.

What to look out for

  • 2×2×0.8 is the standard size for fire-alarm and evacuation systems; for loudspeaker circuits with more current choose NHXH FE180 1.5 mm².
  • The E class follows from the approved mounting system.
Construction
Conductor
Solid bare (plain) annealed copper, 0.8 mm diameter (~0.5 mm²), class 1 acc. to IEC 60228 / VDE 0815.
Fire barrier
Mica-glass fire-resistant tape over each conductor, under the insulation; the barrier that maintains insulation integrity under flame (FE180).
Insulation
Halogen-free cross-linked compound (HX).
Screen
(St) Collective (overall) screen of aluminium/polyester (Al/PET) foil in contact with a tinned copper drain wire (CAM).
Sheath
Halogen-free, flame-retardant, low-smoke (LSZH) compound; orange (red also available).
Core identification
Pairs colour-coded and numbered; the elements are bundle-stranded ('Bd').

Which one do I choose?

JE-H(St)H Bd FE180 or JE-Y(St)Y?

JE-H(St)H Bd FE180

  • halogen-free
  • mica tape around each conductor
  • FE180 to IEC 60331

JE-Y(St)Y

  • PVC insulation and sheath
  • no mica tape
  • no circuit integrity

JE-Y(St)Y has PVC insulation and a PVC sheath without mica tape: flame-retardant, but without circuit integrity. JE-H(St)H Bd FE180 is halogen-free and has a mica tape around each conductor, so the insulation stays intact for 180 minutes in the IEC 60331 fire test (FE180). Choose JE-H(St)H Bd FE180 for fire-alarm and evacuation circuits that must keep working during a fire, and JE-Y(St)Y for measuring and control circuits without that requirement.

JE-H(St)H Bd FE180 or NHXH FE180?

JE-H(St)H Bd FE180

  • signal cable with pairs
  • screened

NHXH FE180

  • 0.6/1 kV power cable
  • no screen

Both have a mica tape under the insulation and achieve FE180, with E30 to E90 depending on the mounting system. JE-H(St)H Bd FE180 is a screened signal cable with 0.8 mm pairs and is not intended for power. NHXH FE180 is a 0.6/1 kV power cable, without a screen. Choose JE-H(St)H Bd FE180 for detector loops and buses, and NHXH FE180 for the supply of lifts, smoke extraction and fire pumps.
