Application

RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) is the fire-resistant, armoured instrumentation cable to EN 50288-7: copper with mica tape and XLPE insulation, individual and collective screens, halogen-free inner sheath, steel wire armour and a halogen-free outer sheath. The reaction-to-fire class is Cca-s1b,d1,a1. Circuit integrity up to PH120, for measuring and control signals that must keep working in a fire.

For connecting measuring, control and signalling instruments. Individual and collective screening prevents interference, and galvanised steel wire armour provides good mechanical protection. Used where halogen-free, flame-retardant and fire-resistant cable is required, for example to supply emergency equipment such as signalling, smoke extraction, acoustic alarms and water pumps. Fire resistance up to PH120.

Also known as: fire-resistant instrumentation cable

Applications

  • Measuring and control signals that must keep working in a fire (PH120 to EN 50200 and EN 50362).
  • Hazardous (explosive) areas and petrochemical plants, where EN 60079-14 calls for armour and circuit integrity is needed.
  • Signals running alongside drives and power cables: pair screens plus a collective screen.

What to look out for

  • Earth the individual screens at one end, usually in the instrument cabinet; collective screen and armour at both ends.
  • Mica tape under the insulation: remove it completely when stripping, as any residue gives a poor terminal connection.
  • Circuit integrity of the installation needs brackets, boxes and trays tested together with the cable as a system; PH120 only describes the cable itself.
  • Earth the armour with glands that grip the steel wires; an ordinary gland does not.
Construction
Conductor
Fine-stranded electrolytic copper, class 5, to UNE-EN 60228 / IEC 60228. The version without K has a stranded class 2 conductor.

Screen (individual/overall)
Polyester tape + tinned copper drain wire + aluminium/polyester tape with 100% coverage.
Inner sheath
Halogen-free compound according to UNE EN 50288-7.
Armour
Galvanised steel wire.
Outer sheath
Halogen-free compound according to UNE EN 50288-7.

Which one do I choose?

RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) or ROZ1MZ1-K(AS+)?

RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+)

  • screen per pair and collective screen

ROZ1MZ1-K(AS+)

  • collective screen only

The difference is the screening. RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) has a screen around each pair and a collective screen, ROZ1MZ1-K(AS+) only the collective screen. Mica tape, XLPE insulation, steel wire armour and circuit integrity up to PH120 are the same. If different kinds of signal or many pairs share one cable, choose RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+); if interference mainly comes from outside, ROZ1MZ1-K(AS+) is enough.

RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) or Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS)?

RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+)

  • XLPE with mica tape
  • rated 90 °C
  • circuit integrity up to PH120

Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS)

  • thermoplastic polyolefin
  • rated 70 °C
  • no circuit integrity

Both are halogen-free and armoured, with a screen per pair and a collective screen. RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) has a mica tape with XLPE insulation rated 90 °C and maintains circuit integrity in a fire up to PH120, 120 minutes to EN 50200 and EN 50362. Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS) has thermoplastic polyolefin insulation rated 70 °C and is flame-retardant, without circuit integrity. Choose RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) if the signal must keep working during a fire; otherwise Z1HOZ1MZ1(AS) is enough.
