RE-2Y(St)Y
EN 50288-7 instrumentation cable, PE/PVC, collective screen
RE-2Y(St)Y is the EN 50288-7 instrumentation cable with PE core insulation and a PVC sheath. PE gives stable electrical properties for signal transmission. Available with individual screening (PiMF/TiMF) and with steel wire armour (SWA) or steel wire braid (SWB); see the versions. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
RE-2Y(St)Y is an instrumentation and process-control cable to EN 50288-7 (VDE 0819-7) for measuring, control, signal and alarm circuits. The copper conductors are insulated with polyethylene (PE) and stranded into pairs or triads, which are assembled and enclosed by a collective (overall) screen of aluminium/polyester foil in contact with a tinned copper drain wire. A polyvinyl chloride (PVC) outer sheath protects the cable in fixed installation indoors and outdoors, in cable trays, ducts and trunking. The overall screen protects the assembled signal pairs against electromagnetic interference; the cable is not intended for power distribution.
Also known as: instrumentation cable
Applications
- Measuring, control, signal and alarm circuits in the process industry.
- Signal transmission where the stable electrical properties of PE are wanted.
- Fixed installation indoors and outdoors, on trays, in ducts and trunking.
What to look out for
- PE insulation (70 °C): if the cable runs along hot process lines or through hot trays, choose the XLPE version RE-2X(St)Y.
- Collective screen as standard; for separation between signals choose PiMF or TiMF.
- Where low-smoke/halogen-free is needed, choose RE-2X(St)H (LSZH).
- CPR class Eca. Where the cable is exposed to indoor air in a building, the Bbl requires at least Dca, and RE-2Y(St)Y does not meet that. Embedded in concrete the requirement does not apply.
- Conductor
- Plain (bare) annealed copper, solid class 1 or stranded class 2 acc. to IEC 60228.
- Insulation
- Polyethylene (PE) acc. to EN 50290-2-23.
- Screen
- Collective (overall) screen of aluminium/polyester foil in contact with a tinned copper drain wire (0.5 mm²).
- Sheath
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) acc. to EN 50290-2-22; black (UV-resistant) or blue for intrinsically safe circuits.
- Core identification
- Pair: black / white; triad: black / white / red; elements progressively numbered.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 300 V (500 V on request).
- Test voltage
- 1.5 kV.
- Standard
- EN 50288-7 (VDE 0819-7); conductor IEC 60228; insulation EN 50290-2-23; sheath EN 50290-2-22.
- Flame-retardant
- Acc. to IEC 60332-1-2 (and IEC 60332-3-24).
- Max. conductor temperature
- +70 °C.
- Permitted outer cable temperature, fixed
- −30 °C to +70 °C.
- Min. bending radius, fixed
- 7.5 × outer diameter.

RE-2Y(St)Y or RE-2X(St)Y?
RE-2Y(St)Y
- PE insulation
- up to 70 °C
- CPR class Eca
RE-2X(St)Y
- XLPE insulation
- up to 90 °C
- CPR class Dca-s3,d2,a3
RE-2Y(St)Y has PE-insulated cores, RE-2X(St)Y XLPE. PE allows a conductor temperature of up to 70 °C, XLPE up to 90 °C. The CPR class differs too: RE-2Y(St)Y is Eca, RE-2X(St)Y is Dca-s3,d2,a3. Screen, PVC sheath and the EN 50288-7 standard are the same, so you choose on the temperature along the route and on the CPR class the project requires.

RE-2Y(St)Y
- European standard
- EN 50288-7
BS 5308 Part 1
- British standard
- BS 5308
Both have PE insulation, a collective screen of aluminium/polyester foil with a drain wire and a PVC sheath. RE-2Y(St)Y follows the European standard EN 50288-7, BS 5308 Part 1 the British standard, which is withdrawn but lives on as the designation. If the specification names BS 5308 or PAS 5308, choose BS 5308 Part 1; otherwise the choice is RE-2Y(St)Y.
