RE-2X(St)H
EN 50288-7 instrumentation cable, XLPE/LSZH, collective screen
RE-2X(St)H is the halogen-free instrumentation cable to EN 50288-7: XLPE core insulation, an LSZH sheath and a collective screen. For measuring and control signals in the process industry, including where low smoke is mandatory. Available with individual screening (PiMF/TiMF) and with steel wire armour; see the versions. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
RE-2X(St)H is a halogen-free instrumentation and process-control cable to EN 50288-7 (VDE 0819-7) for measuring, control, signal and alarm circuits. The copper conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and stranded into pairs or triads, which are assembled and enclosed by a collective (overall) screen of aluminium/polyester foil in contact with a tinned copper drain wire. A low-smoke, zero-halogen (LSZH) outer sheath protects the cable in fixed installation indoors and outdoors, in cable trays, ducts and trunking, and limits smoke density and corrosive gas emission in the event of fire. The overall screen protects the assembled signal pairs against electromagnetic interference; the cable is not intended for power distribution.
Also known as: instrumentation cable
Applications
- Measuring, control, signal and alarm circuits in the process industry.
- Fixed installation indoors and outdoors, on trays, in ducts and trunking.
- Environments where low smoke and halogen-free are mandatory in a fire.
What to look out for
- Collective screen as standard; for separation between signals choose PiMF (per pair) or TiMF (per triad).
- Need mechanical protection? Choose the SWA version (RE-2X(St)HSWAH).
- Blue sheath for intrinsically safe circuits; 300 V (500 V on request).
- Conductor
- Plain or tinned annealed copper, solid class 1 or stranded class 2 acc. to IEC 60228.
- Insulation
- Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) acc. to EN 50290-2-29.
- Screen
- Collective (overall) screen of aluminium/polyester foil in contact with a tinned copper drain wire (0.5 mm²).
- Sheath
- Halogen-free, low-smoke (LSZH) thermoplastic compound acc. to BS 7655-6.1 (type LTS3); black (UV-resistant) or blue for intrinsically safe circuits.
- Core identification
- Pair: black / white; triad: black / white / red; elements progressively numbered.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 300 V (500 V on request).
- Test voltage
- 1.5 kV.
- Standard

RE-2X(St)H or RE-2X(St)Y?
RE-2X(St)H
- halogen-free LSZH sheath
RE-2X(St)Y
- PVC sheath
The difference is the outer sheath, and with it the fire performance. RE-2X(St)H has a halogen-free, low-smoke (LSZH) sheath and is Dca-s2,d2,a1; RE-2X(St)Y has a PVC sheath and is Dca-s3,d2,a3. XLPE insulation, collective screen and the EN 50288-7 standard are the same. Choose RE-2X(St)H where low smoke and halogen-free are specified, and in a building where the cable is exposed to indoor air: there the Bbl requires smoke class s2. Where that requirement does not apply, such as embedded in concrete, RE-2X(St)Y is enough.

RE-2X(St)H
- no mica tape
- no circuit integrity
- unarmoured
RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+)
- mica tape under XLPE insulation
- circuit integrity up to PH120
- steel wire armour
RE-2X(St)H is halogen-free and flame-retardant, but does not keep the circuit working in a fire. RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) has a mica tape under the XLPE insulation and achieves circuit integrity up to PH120 to EN 50200 and EN 50362. RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) is also steel wire armoured and has a screen per pair. Choose RHOZ1MZ1-K(AS+) for signals that must keep working during a fire, such as smoke extraction and alarms; for ordinary measuring and control circuits RE-2X(St)H is enough.
