Cat 6 F/UTP
Category 6 F/UTP foil-screened LAN installation cable, Class E
Cat 6 F/UTP is the foil-screened Cat 6 to 250 MHz: a collective foil screen against interference and alien crosstalk, for electrically noisy environments. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
Cat 6 F/UTP is a foil-screened four-pair horizontal LAN cable for structured building cabling and high-speed LAN/network wiring in electrically noisy environments, supporting Class E links to ISO/IEC 11801 and EN 50173 up to 250 MHz. Each conductor is a solid bare copper wire of AWG 23 (nominal 0.57 mm) with solid polyethylene (PE) insulation; two cores are twisted into a pair and the four pairs (4×2×AWG 23) are laid up and enclosed by one overall aluminium/polyester (Al/PET) foil screen, run with a tinned-copper drain (continuity) wire for easy earthing at the connector. The overall foil gives strong protection against external electromagnetic interference (EMI) and limits alien crosstalk while keeping the cable slimmer than a fully braided S/FTP. A PVC outer sheath completes the construction; the cable supports 1000BASE-T and 10GBASE-T (up to 55 m) plus PoE/PoE+/PoE++. It is supplied on reels or in pull-boxes for fixed indoor installation. The standard sheath is PVC with a CPR reaction-to-fire class of Eca (Dca on request); a low-smoke halogen-free (LSZH) version with class Dca or B2ca is available. The class required depends on the building use and the type of space (Bbl, table 4.42).

Applications
- Office and industrial networks with high electrical interference.
- Routes running close to power cables or machinery.
What to look out for
- Screening only works if the whole channel is screened: cable, jacks, patch panel and patch cords; earthing runs through the patch panel to the rack earth.
- Does the installation need 10G at 100 m? Choose Cat 6A.
- CPR class Eca in PVC. Where the cable is exposed to indoor air in a building, the Bbl requires at least Dca. On request we supply Cat 6 F/UTP in Dca, and halogen-free also in B2ca.

Cat 6 F/UTP or Cat 6 U/UTP?
Cat 6 F/UTP
- foil with drain wire
- Class E, PVC sheath
Cat 6 U/UTP
- no screen
- Class E, PVC sheath
Both are Cat 6 (Class E, 250 MHz) with a PVC sheath. F/UTP has a foil with a drain wire around all four pairs together, while U/UTP has no screen. The foil keeps external interference out, provided the connectors and patch panel are screened too. Choose F/UTP alongside power cables and machinery, and U/UTP in an environment without heavy sources of interference.

Cat 6 F/UTP
- single foil around the core
- up to 250 MHz
- 10GBASE-T up to 55 m
Cat 6A U/FTP
- foil around each pair
- up to 500 MHz
- 10 Gigabit over 100 m
The screen sits differently and the class differs. Cat 6 F/UTP has a single foil around the whole core, goes up to 250 MHz and carries 10GBASE-T up to 55 m. Cat 6A U/FTP has a foil around each pair and a halogen-free sheath, goes up to 500 MHz and carries 10 Gigabit over the full 100 m. Choose Cat 6 F/UTP for Gigabit in an environment with a lot of interference, and Cat 6A U/FTP if 10 Gigabit is needed over the full length.
