XVB
Belgian NBN installation & power cable, Cu/XLPE/PVC, 0.6/1 kV
XVB is the standard Belgian installation and power cable for 0.6/1 kV: XLPE insulation with a grey PVC sheath, CPR class Cca. For indoor wiring on trays, in conduit, clipped or embedded in concrete. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
XVB is the classic Belgian fixed-installation and power cable to NBN HD 604-4-G for 0.6/1 kV circuits in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. The copper conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), assembled with a PVC bedding (common core covering) and protected by a grey, flame-retardant PVC outer sheath. XVB is used on cable trays and ladders, in conduits and trunking, clipped to walls or embedded in concrete; it is not intended for direct burial in the ground (for that choose the armoured EXAVB; outdoors and in ground ducts choose EXVB). Reaction-to-fire class Cca.
Also known as: sheathed installation cable
Applications
- Indoor wiring on cable trays and ladders, in conduit and trunking.
- Residential, commercial and industrial builds to Belgian specification.
- Clipped to walls or embedded in concrete.
What to look out for
- Not for direct burial: that calls for the armoured EXAVB. Outdoors and in ground ducts choose EXVB.
- Does the specification ask for halogen-free or Cca-s1,d2,a1 (low smoke)? Then XVB is not enough and you choose XGB.
- Conductor
- Plain annealed copper, solid class 1 (RE) or stranded class 2 (RM) acc. to IEC 60228. XVB-F2: solid class 1.
- Insulation
- Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), 90 °C rated.
- Core identification
- Coloured cores acc. to HD 308 S2, with or without a green/yellow earth core (e.g. 3G, 4G, 5G); multicore control constructions use numbered cores.
- Bedding
- PVC common core covering (bedding), taped or extruded.
- Outer sheath
- Flame-retardant PVC (polyvinyl chloride), grey.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 0.6/1 kV.
- Test voltage
- 3.5 kV AC.
- Standard
- NBN HD 604-4-G (harmonises the former NBN C 33-322); conductor acc. to IEC 60228. Reaction to fire (CPR) Class Cca-s3,d2,a3 acc. to EN 50575 / EN 13501-6.
- Flame-retardant
- Acc. to IEC 60332-1-2; flame-retardant category F2 acc. to NBN C 30-004 (XVB-F2).
- Max. conductor temperature
- +90 °C (short circuit +250 °C, max. 5 s).
- Permitted ambient temperature, fixed
- −15 °C to +60 °C; min. laying temperature 0 °C.
- Min. bending radius, fixed
- 12 × outer diameter (single-core 15 ×).
XVB or XGB?
XVB
- grey PVC sheath
- Cca-s3,d2,a3
XGB
- green halogen-free sheath
- Cca-s1,d2,a1
Both are Belgian 0.6/1 kV cables with copper cores and XLPE insulation. XVB has a grey PVC sheath and class Cca-s3,d2,a3; XGB a green halogen-free sheath and class Cca-s1,d2,a1. In a fire XGB therefore gives much less smoke and no corrosive gases. Choose XGB where smoke and corrosive gases matter most, such as in public buildings; in other cases XVB is sufficient.

XVB
- indoor cable
- grey PVC sheath
- Cca-s3,d2,a3
EXVB
- outdoors, ducts in the ground
- black, reinforced PVC sheath
- Eca
XVB is the indoor cable with a grey PVC sheath and class Cca-s3,d2,a3. EXVB has a black, reinforced PVC sheath for outdoor use and for ducts in the ground, and class Eca. Neither may go into the ground without extra protection; for that there is the armoured EXAVB. Choose XVB indoors and in concrete, and EXVB outdoors and in a duct in the ground.

XVB
- Cca-s3,d2,a3
YMvK Cca
- Cca-s2,d2,a3
Both are 0.6/1 kV cables with copper cores, XLPE insulation and a PVC sheath. XVB follows the Belgian NBN HD 604-4-G and has class Cca-s3,d2,a3; YMvK Cca has Cca-s2,d2,a3. For cable that is exposed to indoor air in a building, the Bbl requires at least smoke class s2, and XVB with s3 does not meet that. Choose XVB for Belgian projects and YMvK Cca for Dutch ones.
