XGB
Belgian NBN halogen-free installation & power cable, Cca, 0.6/1 kV
XGB is the halogen-free standard for new Belgian installations (NBN HD 604-5-L, 0.6/1 kV): XLPE with a green LSZH sheath, CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. Little smoke and no corrosive gases in a fire. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
XGB is the halogen-free Belgian fixed-installation and power cable to NBN HD 604-5-L for 0.6/1 kV circuits, and is a common choice for new installations in Belgium. The copper conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), assembled with a halogen-free (LSZH) bedding and protected by a green, halogen-free, low-smoke (LSZH) outer sheath. In a fire XGB emits no corrosive halogen gases and very little smoke, so it is specified for public, commercial and residential buildings and everywhere people must evacuate safely. Its reaction-to-fire performance is CPR class Cca-s1,d2,a1. XGB is installed on trays and ladders, in conduits and trunking, clipped or embedded; the steel-tape armoured sibling XFGB and the aluminium sibling EAXeGB cover armoured and aluminium needs.
Also known as: halogen-free sheathed cable
Applications
- New installations in public, commercial and residential buildings.
- Wiring on trays and ladders, in conduit and trunking, clipped or embedded.
- Everywhere people must be able to evacuate safely.
What to look out for
- Halogen-free and low smoke, but flame-retardant, not fire-resistant.
- Not for direct burial. Outdoors and in ground ducts choose EXGB.
- B2ca on request where the project requires it.
- Conductor
- Plain annealed copper, solid class 1 (RE) or stranded class 2 (RM, from 16 mm²) acc. to IEC 60228.
- Insulation
- Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), 90 °C rated.
- Core identification
- Coloured cores acc. to HD 308 S2, with or without a green/yellow earth core (3G, 4G, 5G).
- Bedding
- Halogen-free (LSZH) common core covering, taped or extruded.
- Outer sheath
- Halogen-free, low-smoke (LSZH) thermoplastic compound, green.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 0.6/1 kV.
- Test voltage
- 3.5 kV AC.
- Standard
- NBN HD 604-5-L; conductor acc. to IEC 60228. Reaction to fire (CPR) Class Cca-s1,d2,a1 acc. to EN 50575 / EN 50399 (B2ca on request).
- Halogen-free / low smoke
- Halogen-free acc. to IEC/EN 60754-1/-2; low smoke density acc. to IEC/EN 61034-1/-2; flame-retardant acc. to IEC 60332-1-2.
- Max. conductor temperature
- +90 °C (short circuit +250 °C, max. 5 s).
- Permitted ambient temperature, fixed
- −15 °C to +60 °C; min. laying temperature −5 °C.
- Min. bending radius, fixed
- 12 × outer diameter (single-core 15 ×).
XGB or XVB?
XGB
- green LSZH sheath
- Cca-s1,d2,a1
XVB
- grey PVC sheath
- Cca-s3,d2,a3
XGB is the halogen-free counterpart of XVB: the same copper cores and XLPE insulation, but a green LSZH sheath instead of grey PVC. As a result XGB achieves class Cca-s1,d2,a1, against Cca-s3,d2,a3 for XVB. Choose XGB where low smoke and no corrosive gases count, such as in public buildings. For an installation without that requirement, XVB is sufficient.

XGB
- NBN HD 604-5-L (Belgium)
- Cca-s1,d2,a1
YMz1K
- NEN 3618 (Netherlands)
- Cca-s1,d1,a1
Both are halogen-free 0.6/1 kV cables with copper cores and XLPE insulation. XGB follows the Belgian NBN HD 604-5-L and has class Cca-s1,d2,a1; YMz1K follows the Dutch NEN 3618 and has class Cca-s1,d1,a1. Choose XGB for Belgian projects and YMz1K for Dutch ones.

XGB
- indoor cable
- green halogen-free sheath
- NBN HD 604-5-L
EXGB
- outdoors, ducts in the ground
- black halogen-free sheath
- NBN HD 603-5A
XGB is the halogen-free indoor cable with a green sheath, to NBN HD 604-5-L. EXGB is the outdoor version to NBN HD 603-5A, with a black halogen-free sheath for outdoor use and for ducts in the ground. Both have class Cca-s1,d2,a1. Choose XGB indoors, and EXGB where the cable goes outside or into the ground in a duct.
