NHXH FE180

Halogen-free fire-resistant power cable, 0.6/1 kV, FE180 E30–E90

0.6/1 kV CPR Eca VDE 0266 / IEC 60331

Application

NHXH FE180 is the fire-resistant power cable for emergency supply: a mica tape beneath XLPE maintains circuit integrity for 180 minutes (FE180), halogen-free and low-smoke. For lifts, smoke extraction and fire pumps. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.

NHXH FE180 is a halogen-free, fire-resistant power and installation cable for safety and emergency circuits that must keep operating during a fire, such as emergency lighting, smoke-extraction and sprinkler systems, fire pumps, alarms and other life-safety supplies. A mica-glass fire-barrier tape applied over the conductors and halogen-free cross-linked (XLPE) insulation together maintain circuit integrity to FE180 (IEC 60331), while the complete cable achieves system integrity classes E30 to E90 to DIN 4102-12 depending on the mounting. The low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) sheath is orange for easy identification and, when burning, emits low smoke and no corrosive halogen gases so that escape routes stay passable and equipment is protected. It is available as single-core and multicore cables, rated 0.6/1 kV.

Also known as: fire-resistant cable · circuit-integrity cable · fire-safe power cable

Applications

  • Supply to emergency systems: lifts, smoke extraction and sprinkler pumps.
  • Safety installations where the circuit must keep working during a fire.

What to look out for

  • The E class (E30–E90) depends on the approved mounting system.
  • For fire-resistant signal/bus circuits choose JE-H(St)H Bd FE180.
  • CPR class Eca. Where the cable is exposed to indoor air in a building, the Bbl requires at least Dca; choose the B2ca version there, on request.
Construction
Conductor
Plain (bare) annealed copper, solid class 1 or stranded class 2 acc. to IEC 60228 / VDE 0295.
Fire barrier
Mica-glass fire-resistant tape applied over the conductor(s); the fire barrier that maintains insulation integrity under flame (FE180).
Insulation
Halogen-free cross-linked polyethylene (HX / XLPE).
Sheath
Halogen-free, flame-retardant, low-smoke (LSZH) polyolefin compound; orange (other colours on request).

Which one do I choose?

NHXH FE180 or N2XH?

NHXH FE180

  • mica-glass tape, circuit integrity

N2XH

  • flame-retardant, no circuit integrity

Both are halogen-free 0.6/1 kV cables with XLPE insulation. N2XH is flame-retardant but gives no circuit integrity. NHXH FE180 has a mica-glass tape around the conductors, which keeps the cores apart when the insulation burns away, so the circuit keeps working. Choose NHXH FE180 for circuits that must keep working in a fire, such as lifts, smoke extraction, sprinkler pumps and emergency lighting, and N2XH for the other supplies in the same building.

FE180 or E90: which do I need?

NHXH FE180

  • IEC 60331
  • the cable alone
  • 180 minutes in the flame

E90

  • DIN 4102-12
  • cable plus fixings
  • 90 minutes circuit integrity

FE180 concerns the cable alone: to IEC 60331 the circuit keeps working for 180 minutes with the cable in the flame. E30 to E90 to DIN 4102-12 concerns the installed circuit, so cable plus fixings, and gives 30 to 90 minutes of circuit integrity. FE180 on the cable therefore does not mean the installation achieves E90. If the specification asks for E90, cable and mounting system must have been tested together as E90.
