RZ1MZ1-K(AS)
Halogen-free armoured power cable 0.6/1 kV, XLPE/LSZH/SWA/LSZH
RZ1MZ1-K(AS) is the halogen-free, armoured low-voltage cable to IEC 60502-1 and UNE 21123-4: class 5 copper, XLPE insulation, polyolefin inner sheath, galvanised steel wire armour and a halogen-free outer sheath, reaction-to-fire class Cca.
RZ1MZ1-K(AS) is suitable for hazardous areas (ATEX) where EN 60079-14 calls for an armoured cable. It also suits locations with a fire risk, such as petrochemical plants, filling stations and flammable product stores, and anywhere there is a risk of mechanical damage.
Also known as: armoured halogen-free cable
Applications
- Hazardous (explosive) areas where EN 60079-14 calls for an armoured cable, filling stations and petrochemical plants: armour and halogen-free in one cable.
- Cable in the ground or on tray with a risk of mechanical damage.
- Public buildings where Cca and low smoke are demanded.
What to look out for
- Earth the armour at both ends with glands or earth clamps that grip the steel wires; standard glands do not.
- Class 5 conductor: ferrules or crimp lugs.
- Flame retardant and halogen-free, no circuit integrity: if the circuit must keep working in a fire, choose a fire-resistant type.
- Conductor
- Flexible electrolytic copper conductor, class 5, according to UNE-EN 60228.
- Insulation
- Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), type DIX 3 (UNE 21123 / UNE HD 603) / XLPE (IEC 60502).
- Inner sheath
- Thermoplastic polyolefin sheath, type DMZ-E (UNE 21123) / ST8 (IEC 60502-1).
- Armour
- Galvanised steel wire armour according to IEC 60502-1 and UNE 21123-4. Single-core cables (RZ1MAZ1-K (AS)) have aluminium wire armour; multicore cables from 3×120 mm² can also be supplied with aluminium wire armour.
- Outer sheath
- Thermoplastic polyolefin sheath, type DMZ-E (UNE 21123) / ST8 (IEC 60502-1).
- Rated voltage
- 0.6/1 kV AC.
- Test voltage
- 3,500 V AC.
- Max. conductor temperature
- 90 °C in normal operation.
- Max. short-circuit temperature
- 250 °C (max. 5 s).
- Flame propagation
- Non-propagating according to EN 60332-1-2 / IEC 60332-1-2.
- Fire propagation
- Non-propagating according to EN 60332-3-24 / IEC 60332-3-24.
- Halogen content
- Halogen-free, according to EN 60754-1 / EN 60754-2 / IEC 60754-1 / IEC 60754-2.
- Smoke emission
- Low, according to EN 61034-2 / IEC 61034-2.
RZ1MZ1-K(AS) or RV-K?
RZ1MZ1-K(AS)
- galvanised steel wire armour
- halogen-free sheaths
- class Cca-s1b,d1,a1
RV-K
- no armour
- PVC sheath
- class Eca
RZ1MZ1-K(AS) is a flexible XLPE cable with galvanised steel wire armour and halogen-free sheaths, class Cca-s1b,d1,a1. RV-K has the same class 5 conductor and XLPE insulation, but no armour and a PVC sheath with class Eca. Choose RZ1MZ1-K(AS) where the cable needs mechanical protection, or where low smoke, halogen-free or a higher CPR class than Eca is required. Without those requirements RV-K is lighter and there is no armour to earth.

RZ1MZ1-K(AS)
- IEC 60502-1 and UNE 21123-4
- fine-stranded class 5 copper
BS 6724
- British standard
- stranded class 2 copper
Both are armoured, halogen-free 0.6/1 kV cables with XLPE insulation and wire armour. RZ1MZ1-K(AS) follows IEC 60502-1 and the Spanish UNE 21123-4 and has fine-stranded class 5 copper, so it is more supple to lay. BS 6724 follows the British standard and has stranded class 2 copper. Choose by the specification: BS 6724 for a British specification, RZ1MZ1-K(AS) for an IEC or Spanish specification.
