Motor cable 2YSLCY-J
Screened motor connection cable for frequency converters (VFD), 0.6/1 kV
2YSLCY-J is the EMC motor cable for variable-frequency drives: low-capacitance PE insulation, symmetrical build and a double screen that carries the HF return currents cleanly. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
2YSLCY-J is a screened power cable for the connection of frequency-inverter-driven (variable-frequency-drive, VFD) motors, rated 0.6/1 kV. The finely stranded bare copper conductors are insulated with polyethylene (PE, the low-capacitance '2Y' compound that keeps charging currents and reflections low on inverter outputs) and laid up symmetrically as a four-core power group with a green/yellow protective conductor (J). An EMC screen of a plastic-coated aluminium foil plus a braided screen of tinned copper wires (approx. 85% coverage) surrounds the cores, and a PVC outer sheath protects the cable. The double screen carries the high-frequency return currents of the inverter and, when bonded to earth at both ends over a large contact area, gives interference-free operation of the drive system.

Applications
- Connection of VFD-driven motors in machines and installations.
- Circuits where EMC and interference-free drive operation are critical.
What to look out for
- Earth the screen at both ends over a large area (360 degrees) for EMC.
- On long motor cables the drive manufacturer sets the maximum cable length, not the current rating; give length and switching frequency with the enquiry.
- CPR class Eca. Where the cable is installed permanently in a building and exposed to indoor air, the Bbl requires at least Dca. The wiring inside a control panel or machine is not covered by that requirement, but the cables running to it are.

2YSLCY-J or YMvK on the output of a frequency converter?
Motor cable 2YSLCY-J
- double screen, foil and braid
YMvK
- no screen
A frequency converter puts steep switching edges on the motor cable. 2YSLCY-J is built for that: low-capacitance PE insulation, a symmetrical construction and a double screen of foil and copper braid that carries the high-frequency return currents away. YMvK has no screen, so the high-frequency interference radiates into the surroundings. Between drive and motor choose 2YSLCY-J; for the supply to the drive an installation cable such as YMvK is enough.

Motor cable 2YSLCY-J
- power cable
- 0.6/1 kV
- PE insulation
YSLYCY
- control cable
- 300/500 V
- PVC insulation
YSLYCY is a screened control cable for 300/500 V with PVC insulation and numbered cores. 2YSLCY-J is a 0.6/1 kV power cable with a double screen and PE insulation, which keeps capacitance, and so the charging currents at the inverter output, low. For the motor supply from the drive, choose 2YSLCY-J; YSLYCY is for the control and signal circuits running alongside that motor cable.
