H05V-U is the solid single-core wire for 300/500 V in the small cross-sections (0.5 to 1.0 mm²): for internal wiring of appliances, luminaires and panels. The rigid conductor sits firmly in the terminal. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
H05V-U is a harmonised single-core, non-sheathed wire with a solid plain copper conductor and a PVC insulation, rated 300/500 V and manufactured in accordance with EN 50525-2-31. It is intended for the internal wiring of appliances, luminaires, switchgear, control panels and distribution boards, and for fixed installation in conduit or trunking in dry indoor locations. The wire is available in the cross-sections 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0 mm² in a wide range of colours. It is not intended for direct burial, outdoor use or for installation where it is exposed to mechanical stress or flexing in service.
Also known as: equipment wire · hook-up wire
Applications
- Internal wiring of appliances, luminaires and switchgear.
- Wiring of control panels and distribution boards in small cross-sections.
- Fixed installation in conduit or duct in dry indoor locations.
What to look out for
- 300/500 V class: for 450/750 V conduit wiring use H07V-U or H07V-R.
- Solid: for fixed wiring in luminaires and cabinets. If the wire is moved often during assembly or maintenance, choose H05V-K.
- CPR class Eca. Where the wire runs through a cavity wall, above a suspended ceiling, under a raised floor or in surface-mounted conduit or trunking, the Bbl requires at least Dca; choose H05Z1-K (Dca) there, for example. In conduit cast into concrete or concealed in a solid wall, Eca is sufficient, as it is for the wiring inside a control panel, appliance or luminaire.

H05V-U or H07V-U?
H05V-U
- 300/500 V
- 0.5 to 1 mm²
H07V-U
- 450/750 V
- from 1.5 mm²
Both are solid PVC wires without a sheath. H05V-U is for 300/500 V in 0.5 to 1 mm² inclusive, for wiring appliances, luminaires and panels. H07V-U is for 450/750 V and starts at 1.5 mm². For installation wire in conduit and trunking, choose H07V-U.

H05V-U
- solid conductor
- connected without a ferrule
H05V-K
- fine-stranded and flexible
- needs ferrules
Both are PVC wires for 300/500 V up to and including 1 mm². H05V-U has a solid conductor that sits firmly in the terminal and is connected without a ferrule. H05V-K is fine-stranded and flexible, but needs ferrules. Choose H05V-U for wiring that stays put after assembly, and H05V-K for wiring in appliances and machines that is moved during assembly or maintenance.
