H05V-K
Single-core PVC apparatus wire, flexible class 5 Cu, no sheath
H05V-K is the flexible apparatus wire for 300/500 V: fine-stranded class 5 copper with PVC insulation, available in all common core colours. For the internal wiring of switchboards, appliances and luminaires. In conduit only for signal and control circuits; for mains wiring in conduit on or under plaster, choose H07V-K (450/750 V).
H05V-K is the flexible single-core PVC-insulated wire to EN 50525-2-31 (HD 21.3 / IEC 60227-3) for 300/500 V internal wiring of appliances, luminaires, control panels and distribution boards. It consists of a single fine-stranded class 5 copper conductor insulated with PVC; there is no outer sheath. H05V-K is the lower-voltage, small-size companion to H07V-K (450/750 V) and is made in the fine cross-sections up to 1 mm²; from 1.5 mm² upward the 450/750 V H07V-K type is used. The PVC insulation is colour-coded to HD 308 S2, including green/yellow for protective conductors.
Also known as: apparatus wire · equipment wire · hook-up wire
Applications
- Internal wiring of switchboards and distribution boards at 300/500 V.
- Wiring inside appliances and machines, between terminals and components.
- Protected wiring in and on luminaires.
What to look out for
- 300/500 V: for mains wiring in conduit on or under plaster, H07V-K (450/750 V) is the right wire.
- Fine-stranded class 5: ferrules are mandatory in screw and spring terminals without wire protection.
- CPR class Eca. Where the wire runs through a cavity wall, above a suspended ceiling, under a raised floor or in surface-mounted conduit or trunking, the Bbl requires at least Dca; choose H05Z1-K (Dca) there. In conduit cast into concrete or concealed in a solid wall, Eca is sufficient, as it is for the wiring inside a control panel, appliance or luminaire.

H05V-K or H07V-K?
H05V-K
- 300/500 V
- up to 1 mm²
H07V-K
- 450/750 V
- from 1.5 mm²
Both are fine-stranded PVC wires without a sheath. H05V-K is for 300/500 V and is available up to and including 1 mm²; H07V-K is for 450/750 V and starts at 1.5 mm². H05V-K is intended for wiring inside appliances, luminaires and enclosures. For installation wire in conduit, choose H07V-K.

H05V-K
- fine-stranded and flexible
- needs ferrules
H05V-U
- solid and stiff
- sits firmly in the terminal
Both are PVC wires for 300/500 V in the small cross-sections. H05V-K is fine-stranded and flexible, H05V-U solid and stiff. The solid wire sits firmly in the terminal; the fine-stranded one needs ferrules, but copes better with movement during assembly and maintenance. Choose H05V-U for fixed wiring that stays put, and H05V-K where the wire is moved more often.
