Application

YMvK ss Cca is the YMvK with a flexible conductor: fine-stranded class 5 copper, XLPE insulation for 90 °C, flame-retardant PVC sheath, KEMA-KEUR and reaction-to-fire class Cca. The same cable as the standard YMvK, but easier to pull and bend in tight risers, basements and enclosures. We supply YMvK ss Cca to order, with the lead time stated in the quote.

YMvK ss is a fixed-installation power cable with XLPE insulation and a flame-retardant PVC outer sheath, for use in dry, damp and wet environments: indoors, outdoors, in the ground and in cable ducts. It is suitable for fixed installation in residential, commercial and industrial buildings and is classified as reaction-to-fire class Cca-s2,d2,a3 under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR); the same cable can also be supplied in CPR class Dca on request. The difference from the standard YMvK is the conductor: fine-stranded class 5 copper, which makes the cable easier to pull in and bend, particularly in the larger cross-sections. Otherwise the construction is the same as the standard YMvK.

Flexible, class 5Fixed installationIndoor & outdoor

Also known as: flexible YMvK · flexible installation cable · class 5 installation cable

Applications

  • Large cross-sections to main distribution boards, inverters and EV charging hubs, where the standard YMvK becomes too stiff.
  • Tight risers, cable basements and enclosures with many bends.
  • Fixed installation in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, where the Bbl requires Dca or Cca.

What to look out for

  • Class 5: crimp lugs or use ferrules; never clamp a fine-stranded core directly under a screw.
  • Up to and including 5G10 you will usually choose the standard YMvK Cca, and we keep some of those sizes in stock. The ss version is mainly worthwhile for the larger cross-sections.
  • Unarmoured: in the ground we advise a sand bed with cover tiles or a duct. Under paving or where digging is a risk, choose VO- or VG-YMvKas.

Current ratings to NEN 1010, for copper at a conductor temperature of 90 °C, three-phase. Air is method E: multi-core cable in free air. Ground is method D2: buried directly. The values apply to one circuit, at 30 °C in air or at 20 °C and a soil thermal resistivity of 2.5 K·m/W in the ground. We recalculate them for your situation. The conductor resistance is the IEC 60228 class 2 maximum.

The complete dimension and current-rating tables are in the datasheet.

Which one do I choose?

YMvK ss Cca or standard YMvK Cca?

YMvK ss Cca

  • fine-stranded conductor
  • easier to pull and bend

YMvK Cca

  • solid up to 6 mm²
  • fits the terminal directly

Construction, voltage and fire class are the same; only the conductor differs. YMvK ss Cca is fine-stranded and easier to pull and bend in the large cross-sections. The standard YMvK Cca is solid up to and including 6 mm² and then fits the terminal directly. Choose the ss version for heavy feeders with many bends, and the standard YMvK Cca for final circuits and smaller feeders.

YMvK ss Cca or YMz1K-ss?

YMvK ss Cca

  • PVC sheath
  • Cca-s2,d2,a3

YMz1K-ss

  • halogen-free sheath
  • Cca-s1,d1,a1

Both are flexible 0.6/1 kV cables with XLPE insulation for large cross-sections. YMvK ss Cca has a PVC sheath and class Cca-s2,d2,a3; YMz1K-ss has a halogen-free sheath and class Cca-s1,d1,a1. If the specification calls for halogen-free or smoke class s1, choose YMz1K-ss. On an extra protected escape route the Bbl requires B2ca with smoke class s1, and neither standard version meets that.
