Application

RV-K is the flexible low-voltage cable to IEC 60502-1 and UNE 21123-2: fine-stranded class 5 copper, XLPE insulation for 90 °C and a flexible PVC sheath. For industry and fixed installations, indoors and outdoors, in air, buried or in conduit.

RV-K is a flexible 0.6/1 kV power cable for fixed installations and industrial use. It may be installed indoors and outdoors, in air, buried or in conduit. Not for the power supply of submersible pumps.

Highly flexibleWet locationsIndustrial

Also known as: flexible power cable

Applications

  • Power cable in industrial installations and buildings with tight bends and awkward routes.
  • Connection of machines, distribution boards and generators where a flexible cable eases installation.
  • Spanish, Portuguese and international projects specifying IEC 60502-1.

What to look out for

  • Class 5 conductor: use ferrules or crimp lugs, never bare under a screw terminal.
  • Flexible during installation, but intended for fixed laying: not for drag chains or continuous movement.
  • PVC sheath, class Eca: where Cca is required, RZ1-K (AS) is the halogen-free counterpart; B2ca calls for a dedicated B2ca version.
  • CPR class Eca. Where the cable is installed permanently in a building and exposed to indoor air, the Bbl requires at least Dca. The wiring inside a control panel or machine is not covered by that requirement, but the cables running to it are.

Manufacturer current ratings to IEC 60364-5-52, one circuit. In air: on a tray at 40 °C; single core method F, three loaded conductors in trefoil; 2× and 3G method E with two loaded conductors; 3×, 4×, 4G and 5G method E with three loaded conductors. In the ground: directly buried (method D2) or in conduit (method D1), at 25 °C and a soil thermal resistivity of 2.5 K·m/W; two loaded conductors for 2× and 3G, three for all other sizes. Voltage drop at cos φ = 1: single-phase for 2× and 3G, three-phase for all other sizes. Resistance: the IEC 60228 class 5 maximum at 20 °C. From 7 cores the manufacturer gives no current ratings or voltage drop; a dash means on request.

The complete dimension and current-rating tables are in the datasheet.

Which one do I choose?

RV-K or YMvK Cca?

RV-K

  • fine-stranded class 5 copper
  • class Eca

YMvK Cca

  • solid up to 6 mm²
  • class Cca

Both are 0.6/1 kV cables with XLPE insulation for 90 °C. RV-K has fine-stranded class 5 copper and is far more flexible; YMvK Cca has solid copper up to and including 6 mm² and stranded copper above that. RV-K is class Eca and so does not comply where the Bbl calls for Dca or Cca, while YMvK Cca does. Choose RV-K for awkward routes and machine connections where Eca is permitted.

View YMvK Cca →

RV-K or RZ1MZ1-K(AS)?

RV-K

  • unarmoured
  • PVC sheath
  • class Eca

RZ1MZ1-K(AS)

  • galvanised steel wire armour
  • halogen-free sheaths
  • class Cca-s1b,d1,a1

The basis is the same: fine-stranded class 5 copper and XLPE insulation for 0.6/1 kV. RZ1MZ1-K(AS) adds galvanised steel wire armour and halogen-free sheaths, with class Cca-s1b,d1,a1. RV-K is unarmoured and has a PVC sheath with class Eca. Choose RZ1MZ1-K(AS) where there is a risk of mechanical damage, in explosion-hazard zones where EN 60079-14 calls for an armoured cable, or where halogen-free or a higher CPR class than Eca is required.
