RFOU(c) 250 V
NEK 606 offshore instrumentation cable, collective screen
RFOU(c) 250 V is the offshore instrumentation cable with a collective screen: twisted pairs under one overall screen, halogen-free and drilling-mud-resistant. For measuring, control and alarm circuits on platforms and ships. The blue version is for intrinsically safe circuits. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
RFOU(c) 250 V is a flame-retardant, halogen-free instrumentation and control cable for fixed installation on offshore units, drilling rigs, FPSOs and ships, designed to NEK TS 606 and IEC 60092-376. The tinned copper conductors are insulated with halogen-free EPR, twisted into pairs and protected by a collective screen, a braid of tinned copper wires and a halogen-free, drilling-mud-resistant thermoset outer sheath. The cable is intended for instrumentation, communication, control and alarm circuits in safe and hazardous areas, including installations exposed to oil, drilling fluids and drilling mud. It is not intended for power distribution or for applications requiring fire-resistant (circuit-integrity) cable.
Also known as: offshore instrumentation cable
Applications
- Instrumentation, communication, control and alarm circuits offshore.
- Measuring signals where a single overall screen is enough.
- Intrinsically safe circuits (blue sheath) in hazardous areas.
What to look out for
- Collective screen: if separation between pairs is needed, choose the (i) version with individual screens.
- Flame-retardant, not fire-resistant; for circuit integrity choose BFOU(c).
- Conductor
- Tinned annealed stranded copper, class 2 acc. to IEC 60228. Class 5 (flexible) on request.
- Insulation
- Halogen-free EPR compound.
- Screen
- Collective screen over the assembled pairs: copper-laminated polyester tape with tinned copper drain wire.
- Armour
- Braid of tinned copper wires over a halogen-free inner sheath.
- Sheath
- Halogen-free, flame-retardant and drilling-mud-resistant thermoset compound (SHF2), grey; blue for intrinsically safe circuits.
- Core identification
- Pair: black / light blue; triple: black / light blue / brown; elements progressively numbered.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 150/250 V (max. operating voltage 300 V).
- Test voltage
- 1.5 kV.
- Standard
- NEK TS 606; design acc. to IEC 60092-376; conductors acc. to IEC 60228.
- Flame-retardant
- Acc. to IEC 60332-1-2 and IEC 60332-3-22 Cat. A.
- Halogen-free
- Acc. to IEC 60754-1; low smoke density acc. to IEC 61034-1/-2.
- Drilling-mud resistant
- Yes, sheath resistant to oil and drilling mud acc. to NEK TS 606.
- Max. conductor temperature
- +90 °C.
- Permitted outer cable temperature, fixed
- −20 °C to +90 °C.
- Min. bending radius, fixed
- 6 × outer diameter (8 × outer diameter during installation).
RFOU(c) or RFOU(i)?
RFOU(c) 250 V
- one collective screen
RFOU(i)
- own screen on each pair
The difference is the screen. RFOU(c) has one collective screen of copper-laminated tape with a drain wire over all pairs. RFOU(i) has its own screen with a drain wire around each pair, so the pairs are separated from each other and each screen can be terminated separately. Choose RFOU(c) when a common screen is sufficient, and RFOU(i) where the signal pairs must stay separated from each other.

RFOU(c) 250 V
- NEK TS 606
- EPR insulation
- thermoset sheath
RE-2X(St)H
- EN 50288-7
- XLPE insulation
- thermoplastic LSZH sheath
Both are halogen-free instrumentation cables with twisted pairs under a collective screen. RFOU(c) follows NEK TS 606 for platforms and ships, with EPR insulation, a tinned copper braid and a thermoset sheath. RE-2X(St)H follows EN 50288-7, with XLPE insulation and a thermoplastic LSZH sheath. Offshore and on board, choose RFOU(c); in a plant or building on land, RE-2X(St)H.
