RU 0.6/1 kV is the unarmoured counterpart of RFOU: the same halogen-free EPR insulation and drilling-mud-resistant SHF2 sheath, but without the inner sheath and copper braid. Lighter and more flexible where no mechanical protection or metallic EMC screen is needed. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
RU 0.6/1 kV is a flame-retardant, halogen-free and drilling-mud-resistant unarmoured power and control cable for fixed installation on offshore units, drilling rigs, FPSOs and ships, designed to NEK TS 606 (code P18, since NEK TS 606:2016 code P111) and IEC 60092-353. The tinned copper conductors are insulated with halogen-free EPR and protected by a halogen-free, drilling-mud-resistant thermoset outer sheath; the cable has no metallic braid and is the unarmoured counterpart of RFOU. It is intended for power distribution, lighting, control and trace-heating circuits below 1 kV in safe and hazardous areas, including locations exposed to oil, drilling fluids and drilling mud. It is not intended for applications requiring fire-resistant (circuit-integrity) cable or where mechanical or EMC protection by a braid is needed.
Also known as: offshore cable
Applications
- Power and control circuits below 1 kV where no armour is needed.
- Protected cable routes on platforms, FPSOs and ships.
- Safe and hazardous areas exposed to oil and drilling mud.
What to look out for
- No braid: no mechanical protection and no metallic EMC screen; otherwise choose RFOU.
- Flame-retardant, not fire-resistant; for circuit integrity choose BU or BFOU.
- Conductor
- Tinned annealed stranded circular copper, class 2 acc. to IEC 60228.
- Insulation
- Halogen-free EPR compound.
- Outer sheath
- Halogen-free, flame-retardant and drilling-mud-resistant thermoset compound (SHF2, drilling-mud-resistant grade), black.
- Core identification
- Up to 4 cores: coloured cores acc. to NEK TS 606; 5 cores and more: white cores with black numbers.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 0.6/1 kV (max. operating voltage 1.2 kV).
- Test voltage
- 3.5 kV.
- Standard
- NEK TS 606 (code P18 / P111); design acc. to IEC 60092-353; conductors acc. to IEC 60228.
- Flame-retardant
- Acc. to IEC 60332-3-22 Cat. A.
- Halogen-free
- Acc. to IEC 60754-1; low smoke density acc. to IEC 61034-1/-2.
- Drilling-mud resistant
- Yes, sheath resistant to oil and drilling mud acc. to NEK TS 606.
- Max. conductor temperature
- +90 °C.
- Permitted outer cable temperature, fixed
- −20 °C to +90 °C.
- Min. bending radius, fixed
- 6 × outer diameter (8 × outer diameter during installation).
RU or RFOU?
RU 0.6/1 kV
- no braid
- lighter and more flexible
RFOU
- tinned copper braid
- mechanical protection and screen
RU is the unarmoured version: tinned copper cores with EPR insulation and a halogen-free SHF2 sheath, without an inner sheath and without a braid. That makes RU lighter and easier to pull. RFOU has a tinned copper braid under the outer sheath, for mechanical protection and as a metallic screen. Choose RU on protected routes, and RFOU where the cable can be damaged or a screen is needed.

RU 0.6/1 kV
- NEK TS 606
- thermoset SHF2 sheath
BS 6883
- British standard
- heat and oil resistant SW4 sheath
Both are halogen-free EPR cables for 0.6/1 kV on ships and offshore units, but to a different standard. RU follows NEK TS 606 and has a thermoset SHF2 sheath. BS 6883 follows the British standard and has a heat- and oil-resistant elastomeric sheath (SW4). The specification usually decides which one it is: NEK 606 or a British specification.
