Application
Cables for offshore and marine
Offshore installations use cable to NEK TS 606: RFOU and RU for power and control, BFOU and BU with circuit integrity, and UX as earth conductor. For installations designed to IEEE 45, there is Type P to IEEE 1580. Class-approved marine cable follows IEC 60092. Q Cables supplies all three on request, with the lead time in the quote.
On a platform or a ship, different requirements apply than on land. We know the types and their requirements, and supply them on request.
NEK TS 606 for offshore
NEK TS 606 is the Norwegian specification for cable on offshore oil and gas installations. The cable is also used on FPSOs and ships. The NEK 606 types are halogen-free, flame retardant and resistant to drilling mud. RFOU is braid armoured, RU unarmoured. BFOU and BU keep the circuit working in a fire, tested to IEC 60331-21.
Marine cable to IEC 60092
Class-approved marine cable follows IEC 60092 and is approved by the ship’s classification society. We supply it on request. With your enquiry, give the classification society and the type designation from the specification.
Medium voltage and flexible
For medium voltage on an offshore installation there is RFOU 6/10 kV. BS 6883 is a flexible EPR cable for power and control to the British standard for ships and offshore installations.
RFOU 0.6/1 kV
NEK 606 offshore power cable, halogen-free, braid armoured
Lead time: On request; the lead time is stated in the quote.
BFOU 0.6/1 kV
NEK 606 offshore fire-resistant power cable, halogen-free, braid armoured
Lead time: On request; the lead time is stated in the quote.
Type P power
IEEE 1580 offshore power cable, XLPO, unarmoured, bronze braid armoured (B) or armoured and sheathed (BS), 0.6/1 kV
Lead time: On request; the lead time is stated in the quote.

Do you hold offshore cable in stock?
No. We supply NEK 606 cable on request, with the lead time in the quote.
What is the difference between RFOU and BFOU?
BFOU is fire resistant: the circuit keeps working in a fire, tested to IEC 60331-21. RFOU is flame retardant but has no circuit integrity.
Do you also supply marine cable?
Yes, on request, to IEC 60092 and with the approval the ship requires.
Why not every cable has a CPR class
Which cables fall outside EN 50575, why that differs from Fca, and what to report back when the specification demands a class for a type that has none.
Fire resistant or flame retardant: what is the difference?
Four properties that get mixed up in specifications: flame retardant, fire resistant, halogen-free and the CPR class.
British and offshore standards: BS 5308, BS 5467, BS 6724, BS 7846 and NEK TS 606
When these standards turn up in a Benelux project, what they fix and what to watch for on earthing, fire performance and CPR.
