RFOU 6/10 kV
NEK 606 offshore medium-voltage power cable, halogen-free, braid armoured
RFOU 6/10 kV is the offshore medium-voltage cable to NEK TS 606: semi-conductive screens, EPR insulation and an individual plus collective copper screen, halogen-free and drilling-mud-resistant. For MV distribution up to 12 kV on platforms and ships. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
RFOU 6/10 kV is a flame-retardant, halogen-free and drilling-mud-resistant medium-voltage power cable for fixed installation on offshore units, drilling rigs, FPSOs and ships, designed to NEK TS 606 (code P3/P10, now P103) and IEC 60092-354. Each tinned copper conductor is provided with a semi-conductive conductor screen, halogen-free EPR insulation, a semi-conductive insulation screen and an individual tinned copper wire braid screen; the laid-up cores are protected by a halogen-free inner sheath, a braid of tinned copper wires and a halogen-free, drilling-mud-resistant thermoset outer sheath. The cable is intended for medium-voltage power distribution up to 12 kV in safe and hazardous areas, including locations exposed to oil, drilling fluids and drilling mud. It is not intended for applications requiring fire-resistant (circuit-integrity) cable.
Also known as: offshore medium voltage cable
Applications
- Medium-voltage distribution up to 12 kV on offshore installations.
- Links between generators, transformers and switchgear.
- Safe and hazardous areas exposed to oil and drilling mud.
What to look out for
- Choose terminations and joints for 6/10 kV and for EPR insulation with a braid screen per core; standard kits for XLPE distribution cable do not fit.
- NEK 606 cable is tested for ships and offshore; for an onshore installation the grid operator usually asks for an IEC 60502-2 cable such as N2XSY. State in your enquiry where the cable will be installed.

RFOU 6/10 kV or N2XSY?
RFOU 6/10 kV
- NEK TS 606
- EPR insulation
- braid on each core
- halogen-free sheath
N2XSY
- IEC 60502-2
- XLPE insulation
- copper wire screen
- PVC sheath
Both are available in 6/10 (12) kV, but for a different environment. RFOU 6/10 kV follows NEK TS 606 for platforms and ships: tinned copper cores, EPR insulation, a braid on each core and a halogen-free sheath. N2XSY follows IEC 60502-2, with XLPE insulation, a copper wire screen and a PVC sheath. On board and offshore, choose RFOU 6/10 kV; on land, N2XSY.
