UX is the offshore earthing conductor to NEK TS 606: a single tinned copper core with green/yellow halogen-free SHF2 insulation, without an outer sheath. For protective earth and equipotential bonding on platforms and ships. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
UX is a flame-retardant, halogen-free and drilling-mud-resistant single-core insulated conductor for earthing and bonding services on offshore units, drilling rigs, FPSOs and ships, designed to NEK TS 606 (code P15, since NEK TS 606:2016 code P108). The tinned copper conductor is insulated with a halogen-free, cross-linked SHF2 thermoset compound in green/yellow; the conductor has no outer sheath. It is intended for fixed installation as protective earth and equipotential bonding conductor in safe and hazardous areas, including locations exposed to oil and drilling mud. It is not intended for use as a power or control cable.
Also known as: offshore earthing cable
Applications
- Protective earth and equipotential bonding on offshore installations and ships.
- Earth connections in safe and hazardous areas with oil and mud.
- A companion to the NEK 606 cables where a separate earth conductor is needed.
What to look out for
- NEK 606 earthing conductor for ships and offshore units; for an onshore installation H07Z1-K green/yellow is sufficient.
- Tinned stranded conductor (class 2): use crimp lugs, no bare strands under a screw terminal.
- Conductor
- Tinned annealed stranded circular copper, class 2 acc. to IEC 60228.
- Insulation
- Halogen-free, flame-retardant and drilling-mud-resistant cross-linked thermoset compound SHF2 acc. to IEC 60092-360.
- Sheath
- None (unsheathed).
- Core colour
- Green/yellow.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 0.6/1 kV (max. operating voltage 1.2 kV).
- Test voltage
- 3.5 kV (acc. to IEC 60092-353 for 0.6/1 kV).
- Standard
- NEK TS 606 (code P15 / P108); insulation compound acc. to IEC 60092-360; conductors acc. to IEC 60228.
- Flame-retardant
- Acc. to IEC 60332-1-2 and IEC 60332-3-22 Cat. A.
- Halogen-free
- Acc. to IEC 60754-1/-2; low smoke density acc. to IEC 61034-1/-2.
- Max. conductor temperature
- +90 °C.
- Permitted outer temperature, fixed
- −20 °C to +90 °C.
- Min. bending radius, fixed
- 6 × outer diameter (8 × outer diameter during installation).
- Reaction to fire (CPR)
- Outside the scope of EN 50575 (offshore and shipboard cable).
UX or H07Z1-K green/yellow?
UX
- tinned stranded copper, class 2
- thermoset SHF2 insulation
- 0.6/1 kV
H07Z1-K green/yellow
- plain flexible copper, class 5
- thermoplastic insulation
- 450/750 V
Both are halogen-free, unsheathed cores in green/yellow, but for a different environment. UX follows NEK TS 606: tinned stranded copper (class 2), a thermoset SHF2 insulation and 0.6/1 kV. H07Z1-K is the building wire: plain flexible copper (class 5), thermoplastic insulation and 450/750 V. Offshore and on board, choose UX; in an installation on land, H07Z1-K.
