Application

RG 213 TY-ZH is the thick 50 ohm coaxial cable to MIL-C-17 with a halogen-free, flame-retardant (LSZH) sheath: 7 × 0.75 mm copper inner conductor, PE dielectric, copper braid with 93% coverage and an outer diameter of 10.3 mm. Lower attenuation than RG 58, for fixed antenna and transmitter feeders in buildings where halogen-free is required.

RG 213 TY-ZH is the halogen-free version of the heavy 50 ohm RG 213 coax. It is intended for antenna and transmitter feeders in professional radio, base stations and radar, where smoke and corrosive gases in a fire must be kept to a minimum. The designation follows the RG 213 type of the MIL-C-17 family. The sheath is halogen-free to EN 60754-1/-2 and low-smoke to EN 61034-2. The CPR class is Eca.

50 ΩLSZH

Also known as: coax cable · 50 ohm coax · transmitter cable

Applications

  • Antenna and transmitter feeders with lower attenuation than RG 58, inside buildings and plant rooms.
  • Fixed RF installations: masts, marine and two-way radio systems, and measuring systems.
  • Replacement of PVC-sheathed RG 213 where a halogen-free (LSZH) sheath is required.

What to look out for

  • One braid with 93% coverage: for high screening requirements, choose the double-braided RG 214.
  • Use connectors in the RG 213 size (N, UHF/PL-259); those for RG 58 do not fit.
  • CPR class Eca. Where the cable is installed permanently in a building and exposed to indoor air, the Bbl requires at least Dca. The wiring inside a control panel or piece of equipment is not covered by that requirement, but the cables running to it are.

Which one do I choose?

RG 213 or RG 58?

RG 213 TY-ZH

  • about 10.3 mm thick
  • lower loss at 100 MHz

RG 58

  • about 5 mm thick
  • higher loss at 100 MHz

RG 213 is the thick 50 ohm coax: about 10.3 mm against about 5 mm for RG 58. With its larger inner conductor and thicker dielectric, RG 213 has less than half the attenuation of RG 58 at 100 MHz. Choose RG 213 for fixed antenna and transmitter feeders over longer distances. RG 58 remains handy for short, flexible links.

RG 213 or RG6?

RG 213 TY-ZH

  • 50 ohm
  • transmitters and measuring equipment

RG6

  • 75 ohm
  • TV, satellite and CCTV

The difference is the impedance. RG 213 is 50 ohm, for transmitters, marine VHF, two-way radio and measuring equipment. RG6 is 75 ohm, for TV, satellite, antenna distribution and CCTV. Choose the cable that matches the impedance of the equipment, because a mismatch causes reflections.
