RG6 is the 75 ohm standard for TV, satellite and antenna: low-loss foam PE and a foil-plus-braid screen, also for CCTV and longer runs. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
RG6 is a 75 ohm coaxial cable for broadcast, CATV and video signals: TV, satellite, antenna and CCTV. The inner conductor (solid copper, or copper-clad steel in the CATV version) sits in a low-loss foam PE dielectric, surrounded by aluminium foil and a tinned copper braid for good screening. A flame-retardant PVC outer sheath completes the cable; a halogen-free (LSZH) version is available on request. RG6 has lower attenuation than RG59 and is the standard for modern satellite and antenna installations over longer runs.
Also known as: coax cable · 75 ohm coax · TV cable · satellite cable · antenna cable · CATV cable
Applications
- TV, satellite and antenna distribution in residential and commercial buildings.
- CCTV and video signals over longer distances.
What to look out for
- For short CCTV/video links RG59 is often enough.
- CPR class Eca in PVC. Where the cable is installed permanently in a building and exposed to indoor air, the Bbl requires at least Dca; choose the halogen-free version in Dca or B2ca there, on request.
- Conductor
- Solid bare copper, 18 AWG (nominal 1.02 mm); copper-clad steel (CCS) version as CATV variant.
- Dielectric
- Foam polyethylene (PE), low loss, nominal 4.6 mm.
- Screen
- Aluminium/polyester foil, 100% coverage.
- Braid
- Tinned copper braid over the foil, at least 95% coverage. Quad screen (foil, braid, foil, braid) on request.
- Sheath
- PVC, flame-retardant (IEC/EN 60332-1-2); LSZH version on request.
- Reaction to fire (CPR)
- Eca as standard (EN 50575); LSZH version (Dca/B2ca) on request.
- Characteristic impedance
- 75 Ω.
- Capacitance
- Approx. 53 pF/m.
- Velocity of propagation
- Approx. 82%.
- Attenuation
- Low-loss foam PE; lower than RG59 (per-frequency values in the datasheet).
- Applications
- TV, satellite, antenna distribution, CCTV.
RG6 or RG59?
RG6
- inner conductor 1.02 mm
- lower attenuation
RG59
- inner conductor 0.81 mm
- higher attenuation
RG6 has a thicker inner conductor than RG59 (1.02 against 0.81 mm) and therefore lower attenuation. For satellite, TV distribution and long runs, choose RG6. RG59 is thinner and more flexible, and is sufficient for camera and video links over short to medium distances.
View RG59 →RG6 with a copper or copper-clad steel core?
RG6
- solid copper core
- lower DC resistance
copper-clad steel
- copper-clad steel core (CCS)
- much higher DC resistance
The difference is in the DC resistance. A copper-clad steel (CCS) core has a much higher DC resistance than solid copper, while the high-frequency signal travels mainly through the copper layer. If the cable also has to feed power to an LNB or amplifier, choose solid copper. For signal-only runs in cable TV networks, CCS is common.
