H05SS-F is the silicone flexible cable for 300/500 V: silicone rubber insulation and sheath for continuous operation up to +180 °C, with short-term peaks to +250 °C. For ovens, luminaires, heating and saunas where ordinary PVC or rubber cable fails. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
H05SS-F is a harmonised multi-core flexible cable to EN 50525-2-83 with silicone rubber (SiR) insulation and a silicone rubber sheath, rated 300/500 V, for high-temperature applications. The fine-wire class 5 tinned copper conductors keep the cable flexible while the silicone insulation and sheath allow continuous operation at up to +180 °C and withstand short-term peaks and thermal shock. It serves as an appliance and connecting cable in heat-exposed equipment and installations, such as ovens and furnaces, lighting and luminaires, heaters, saunas and boiler and steam plant, and in the steel, glass and ceramics industries. The cable is suitable for dry, damp and wet locations. In fire the silicone forms an insulating ash; the cable is not classified as fire-resistant.
Also known as: silicone cable · heat-resistant cable
Applications
- Wiring of ovens, heating appliances, saunas and boiler and steam plant.
- Luminaires and lighting close to heat sources.
- Steel, glass and ceramics industries with high ambient temperatures.
What to look out for
- Silicone is heat-resistant but mechanically softer than PVC/rubber; protect against abrasion and cutting.
- The +180 °C applies to the cable; terminals and connectors must also withstand that temperature.
- Conductor
- Fine-wire stranded tinned (metal-coated) copper, class 5 to IEC/EN 60228.
- Insulation
- Silicone rubber (SiR), compound EI2 to EN 50363-1.
- Core colours
- To HD 308 S2: 2 cores brown, blue; 3 G green/yellow, brown, blue; 4 G green/yellow + brown, black, grey; 5 G green/yellow + blue, brown, black, grey.
- Sheath
- Silicone rubber (SiR), compound EM9; round; typically reddish-brown or black.
- Rated voltage Uo/U
- 300/500 V.
- Test voltage
- 2.0 kV.
- Standard
- EN 50525-2-83; conductor IEC/EN 60228 class 5.
- Flame-retardant
- IEC/EN 60332-1-2.
- Max. conductor temperature
- +180 °C (short-term +250 °C).
- Permitted outer cable temperature, fixed
- −50 °C to +180 °C.
- Min. bending radius, fixed
- 4 × outer diameter.
- Min. bending radius, flexing
- 15 × outer diameter.
- Reaction to fire (CPR)
- Outside the scope of EN 50575 (flexible connection cable).
H05SS-F or SiHF?
H05SS-F
- harmonised, EN 50525-2-83
SiHF
- German, VDE 0250
The same construction: tinned class 5 copper with silicone insulation and sheath, 300/500 V and continuous up to +180 °C. H05SS-F is the harmonised version to EN 50525-2-83. SiHF is the German designation to VDE 0250 and also comes with more cores, up to 24. If the specification calls for a harmonised cable, choose H05SS-F; if you need more than five cores, SiHF.

H05SS-F
- silicone rubber
- continuous up to +180 °C
H05RN-F
- rubber
- 60 °C conductor temperature
H05RN-F is a rubber cable for a 60 °C conductor temperature. H05SS-F has silicone rubber insulation and sheath and may run continuously up to +180 °C. If the cable runs past ovens, heating elements or luminaires, or hangs in a hot environment, choose H05SS-F. For portable appliances at normal temperatures, outdoors as well, H05RN-F is the usual choice.
