RS-485 1×2×0.22 SWA PVC
RS-485 bus cable, 1 pair 0.22 mm², 120 Ω, foil and tinned-copper braid, steel wire armoured, PVC sheath
RS-485 1×2×0.22 SWA PVC is the armoured one-pair bus cable: 120 Ω, foil plus tinned-copper braid, a PVC inner sheath, steel wire armour and a grey PVC outer sheath. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.
RS-485 1×2×0.22 SWA PVC is an RS-485 (EIA/TIA-485) data bus cable with a characteristic impedance of 120 Ω, for serial fieldbus communication between PLCs, drives, operator panels, meters and SCADA/RTU equipment. One twisted pair of stranded tinned-copper conductors with polyethylene (PE) insulation is enclosed by an overall screen of aluminium foil with a tinned-copper drain wire and a tinned-copper braid, which keeps the bus reliable in electrically noisy installations and over long distances. A black PVC inner sheath, a steel wire armour for mechanical protection and a grey PVC outer sheath complete the cable.
Also known as: RS485 cable · Modbus cable · fieldbus cable
Applications
- RS-485 in industry and on sites where the cable is at risk of impact.
- Bus links along cable trays and machinery with a risk of mechanical damage.
What to look out for
- CPR class Eca. Where the cable is exposed to indoor air in a building, the Bbl requires at least Dca.
- The outer diameter is 10.20 mm (±0.50 mm). Choose a gland for armoured cable, which clamps the steel wire armour.
- Conductor
- Stranded tinned copper, 7 × 0.20 mm (±0.008 mm), approx. 0.22 mm².
- Insulation
- Polyethylene (PE), nominal diameter 1.80 mm (±0.13 mm).
- Pair
- One twisted pair; colours white/blue and blue/white.
- Screen
- Overall aluminium foil with a stranded tinned-copper drain wire, 7 × 0.20 mm.
- Braid
- Tinned copper, 112 × 0.12 mm.
- Inner sheath
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), black, nominal diameter 5.89 mm (±0.20 mm).
- Armour
- Steel wire armour (SWA), 26 wires of 0.90 mm.
- Outer sheath
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), grey.
- Cross-reference
- Comparable to Belden 9841 (RS-485, 1 pair), with an added PVC inner sheath and steel wire armour.
- Rated voltage
- 300 V.
- Characteristic impedance
- 120 Ω.
- Conductor resistance
- max. 85 Ω/km at 20 °C.
- Temperature range
- −30 °C to +80 °C.
- Compliance
- RoHS (EU 2015/863) and REACH.
- Reaction to fire (CPR)
- Eca (EN 50575).

Armoured or PE UV?
RS-485 1×2×0.22 SWA PVC
- steel wire armour
- Ø 10.20 mm
RS-485 1×2×0.20 PE UV
- unarmoured
- Ø 5.90 mm
Under its grey PVC outer sheath, the SWA version has steel wire armour against mechanical damage, and it is 10.20 mm thick. The PE version is unarmoured, 5.90 mm thick and has a UV-resistant sheath. If there is a risk of mechanical damage, choose the armoured version.

RS-485 1×2×0.22 SWA PVC
- 120 Ω
- for Modbus RTU among others
PROFIBUS DP cable
- 150 Ω (type A)
- for PROFIBUS DP
PROFIBUS DP also uses RS-485, but requires a 150 Ω cable (type A to IEC 61158). This cable has 120 Ω and is intended for buses such as Modbus RTU. For PROFIBUS DP you therefore choose a PROFIBUS cable.
