Application

RS-485 1×2×0.20 PE UV is the one-pair bus cable for outdoors: 120 Ω, foil plus tinned-copper braid and a black, UV-resistant PE sheath. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.

RS-485 1×2×0.20 PE UV is an RS-485 (EIA/TIA-485) data bus cable with a characteristic impedance of 120 Ω, for serial fieldbus communication between PLCs, drives, operator panels, meters and SCADA/RTU equipment. One twisted pair of stranded tinned-copper conductors with polyethylene (PE) insulation is enclosed by an overall screen of aluminium/polyester (Al/PET) foil with a tinned-copper drain wire and a tinned-copper braid, which keeps the bus reliable in electrically noisy installations and over long distances. The black PE sheath is UV-resistant, for routes exposed to sunlight.

Applications

  • Bus cable along solar farms, charging hubs and outdoor sites.
  • RS-485 between outdoor cabinets, meters and inverters.

What to look out for

  • CPR class Fca: for outdoors. Inside a building, where the cable is exposed to indoor air, the Bbl requires at least Dca.
  • Where mechanical damage is a risk, choose the armoured RS-485 1×2×0.22 SWA PVC.
Construction
Conductor
Stranded tinned copper, 7 × 0.19 mm (±0.008 mm), approx. 0.20 mm².
Insulation
Polyethylene (PE), nominal diameter 1.80 mm (±0.13 mm).
Pair
One twisted pair; colours white/blue and blue/white.
Screen
Overall aluminium/polyester (Al/PET) foil with a stranded tinned-copper drain wire, 7 × 0.19 mm.
Braid
Tinned copper, 112 × 0.12 mm, coverage 90%.
Sheath
Polyethylene (PE), UV-resistant, black.
Cross-reference
Comparable to Belden 9841 (RS-485, 1 pair). Differs in sheath (UV-resistant PE instead of PVC) and conductor (7 × 0.19 mm instead of 7 × 0.20 mm).

Which one do I choose?

PE UV or LSZH?

RS-485 1×2×0.20 PE UV

  • UV-resistant PE sheath
  • CPR Fca

RS-485 1×2×0.20 LSZH

  • halogen-free LSZH sheath
  • CPR Eca

Construction and electrical values are virtually the same. The PE version has a black UV-resistant sheath for routes in the sun and is Fca. The LSZH version has a grey halogen-free sheath and is Eca.

PE UV or armoured?

RS-485 1×2×0.20 PE UV

  • unarmoured
  • Ø 5.90 mm

RS-485 1×2×0.22 SWA PVC

  • steel wire armour
  • Ø 10.20 mm

The PE version has a UV-resistant sheath but no armour. Under its grey PVC outer sheath, the SWA version has steel wire armour against mechanical damage, and at 10.20 mm it is considerably thicker than the 5.90 mm of this cable. If there is a risk of mechanical damage, choose the armoured version.
