EAXeCGB

Single-core Al XLPE MV cable, Cu wire screen, longitudinally watertight, halogen-free sheath, 8.7/15 to 20.8/36 kV

8.7/15 to 20.8/36 kV IEC 60502-2 / HD 620

Application

EAXeCGB is the halogen-free version of EAXeCWB: aluminium, XLPE, a copper wire screen and a longitudinally watertight screen (e) under a halogen-free sheath (G). In all four voltage classes. Supplied to order; the lead time is stated in the quote.

EAXeCGB is the halogen-free version of EAXeCWB to NBN HD 620: a single-core medium-voltage cable with an aluminium conductor, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, a copper wire screen (CWS) with copper counter-helix and a halogen-free outer sheath. The 'e' denotes a longitudinally watertight screen: swellable water-blocking tapes under and over the wire screen stop water from travelling along the cable. The 'G' denotes the halogen-free sheath, where EAXeCWB has a PE sheath (W). Comparable to, but not identical with, the German NA2XS(F)2Y (different national standard). For routes where the specification calls for a halogen-free sheath. Available in the 8.7/15, 12/20, 18/30 and 20.8/36 kV classes.

Also known as: medium voltage cable

Applications

  • Routes where the specification calls for a halogen-free sheath.
  • Ducts and routes between substations.

What to look out for

  • The e stands for the longitudinally watertight screen, the G for the halogen-free sheath. With a PE sheath it is EAXeCWB.
  • Choose the voltage class based on the Um of the network (17.5, 24, 36 or 42 kV): insulation thickness runs from 4.5 to 8.8 mm. The outer diameter and the size of joints and terminations change with it.
Construction
Conductor
Round stranded (RM) aluminium, class 2 acc. to IEC 60228.
Conductor screen
Extruded semi-conductive cross-linked compound over the conductor.
Insulation
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) acc. to IEC 60502-2 / HD 620.
Insulation screen
Extruded semi-conductive cross-linked compound.
Metallic screen
Copper wire screen (CWS) with a copper counter-helix tape, made longitudinally watertight (e) by semi-conductive swellable water-blocking tapes applied under and over the wire screen.
Outer sheath
Flame-retardant halogen-free (HFFR) compound, red (G). The version with a PE sheath is EAXeCWB (W).
Electrical & thermal properties
Rated voltage Uo/U
(Um) 8.7/15 (17.5) kV; also 12/20 (24), 18/30 (36) and 20.8/36 (42) kV.
Standard
IEC 60502-2 up to and including 18/30 kV; NBN HD 620 part 10 section B (Belgian section), also for 20.8/36 kV; conductor IEC 60228. EAXe is the Belgian designation; comparable to, but not identical with, the German NA2XS(F)2Y.
Max. conductor temperature
+90 °C (continuous, XLPE).
Reaction to fire (CPR)
No Euroclass is published for this type; the class of the version supplied is available on request.

Which one do I choose?

EAXeCGB or EAXeCWB?

EAXeCGB

  • halogen-free sheath

EAXeCWB

  • PE sheath

EAXeCGB is the version of EAXeCWB with a halogen-free sheath (the G). Conductor, XLPE insulation and the longitudinally watertight copper wire screen are the same; EAXeCWB has a PE sheath. If the specification or the network operator explicitly asks for a halogen-free sheath, choose EAXeCGB. Otherwise EAXeCWB will do.

EAXeCGB or NA2XS(F)2Y?

EAXeCGB

  • NBN HD 620 (Belgium)
  • halogen-free sheath
  • 8.7/15 to 20.8/36 kV

NA2XS(F)2Y

  • VDE 0276-620 (Germany)
  • PE sheath
  • also 6/10 kV

Both are single-core aluminium medium-voltage cables with XLPE insulation and a longitudinally watertight copper wire screen. EAXeCGB is a Belgian type to NBN HD 620, with a halogen-free sheath, from 8.7/15 to 20.8/36 kV. NA2XS(F)2Y is the German type to VDE 0276-620, with a PE sheath, and also comes in 6/10 kV. Choose the type named by the network operator or the specification.
